I'm trying to find tamper parts. I've recently bought a lathe and I've started making tampers, but as of now I've only seen this at Vermont freehand. Does anyone know of other sites? vermontfreehand.com/product/tamper-kit/Things like the tamper head, tubing, and poker. Mostly the tamper head.

I have a boatload of old rifle shells in a caliber that I no longer have a rifle for. I'm cutting these for the head, (and possibly for accent rings). Then I just turn a piece of hardwood down to fit, glue it up and polish.

A tamper with a briar tamping surface will last for an extremely long time.

You can look for non-ferious materials that can be turned to make the tamper head. Or as suggested you could we one of the known dense woods. Now you didn't state which type of lathe you just bought. Is it a wood lathe or a machine lathe. Tool sets and material worked are different.
There was a suggestion bout stainless caps, good idea. Ammo brass everyone uses it. I suggest you find something yours.
Note for Skew practice I make tamper sized items that has coves, beads, tapers. On occasion a tea light holder pops out.
Be you, please your eye
