Things have slowed down a little, and I can take a moment to savor something Ive been looking forward to. I got the pipe in from Terry, and Im about to fire up the first bowl. Even before I do, let me tell you guys, dont hesitate to take a chance on Terry's work. He's done a wonderful job on this pipe, and everything is superb. The fit and finish is professional and spot on, no shortcuts here. I'll comeback after I smoke it, if not this evening then tomorrow. But I know it will smoke as great as it looks. Im inaugurating it with Old Dad, which somehow seems fitting.

We had folks come over while I finishing up the bowl of Old Dad last night, and I couldnt get back online.
As I expected, it smoked great. I have a method of curing a new pipe that Ive been using for years. I started by taking a wooden match stick and using it to put a very thin coating of honey around the inside wall of the pipe. I then filled the pipe only about 1/3 full of Old Dad tobacco, and smoked that at a leisurely pace. When I finished, I left the dottle in the pipe, and today I will fill the pipe up to 2/3, and smoke that. Leaving that dottle in as well, I will then fill the pipe all the way and smoke it. At that point, I dump everything out, wipe it gently with a paper towel, and smoke as normal.
The pipe smokes great, it has the good, open draw that I prefer and gave me no trouble whatsover. This will surely become one of my everyday dependables. Im very pleased.

Also, as a very unexpected extra, Terry made me a tamper for my birthday! The bottom is a spent brass cartridge, the shaft is smooth, shaped wood with a lovely grain, and he carved a horsehead on top. I was blown away!

Congratulations, a nice pipe and a tamper to boot!
Terry is always a delight to converse with at the pipe club meetings, it is cool to have a carver in the group.
