That I can count on briar to be a reliable and consistent medium to work in. Never any surprises. Just perfection in nature. There goes $20!

You could go Arizona themed, The Grand Canyon Series”. Fill it with turquoise! It makes a great looking fill that I’ve seen the Japanese carvers use. I think Clark Layton and my buddy Don Warren might use turquoise too.

Come to think of it I think the Japanese used Jade. I don’t know how they fitted the Turquoise but I’d guess they probably fitted little chips in and sanded them down. I don’t know but I know I’ve seen it done. I thought it fit in with TrailBoss’ AZ theme idea.

the first thing I thought of was a satellite view of the Grand Canyon, complete with the river running to and from, a thin stream of Turquoise resin as the river if that could be done.
Truly, one of a kind!

I think Chris Kelly at Eldricth Pipes does a Briar and Resin blend called the Alchemist. It's very creative. Shank is a blend of briar and resin and blends seamlessly into the stem.

It's interesting, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Cool factor is there, definitely, but it's not to my aesthetic taste.

They have acrylic and epoxy that can be tinted any color with mica powder on Amazon. It looks pretty good.

The age-old question. Do I color the fill putty to look the same as the new pipe, or do I color it darker so it blends in better when the pipe is old?
