Charlotte NC is the 15th largest city in the country. Like other big cities it has a bunch of smaller cities around it.I live in one of them..The first of this week a bear was spotted running loose in the next city over about 15 miles from my house..This morning a bear was spotted about 3 miles from my house..I don't know if it was the same bear..I have to be careful..I don't have anything big enough to take out a Bear.

Be sure to always have someone with you slower than you are. Or so the old joke goes.

Buy a big canister of Bear Mace. My brother carries it when he's out photographing nature - usually in Yellowstone.
I have a couple canisters too, but for different reasons.

A black bear in NC is not gonna bother you. And even if it did, a 9mm or a .357 would be enough. Or a well placed .22. Take it from an old bear hunter. There are things a lot more dangerous in Charlotte than that bear, things that only have 2 legs.

About the only time I become worried around Black Bears is if I spot a cub and not mama bear.
Grizzly and Polar Bears are another story. I try to avoid them. I figure 3,000 miles is sufficient sociological distancing.

I once had 9 grizzly encounters in 2 days while hunting in Alaska. Including one coming through camp at night. I aint gonna say I was on edge, but I will say I was so tense you couldnt have driven a 16 penny nail in my left butt cheek with a greasy ball peen hammer.

I want nothing to do with them. Been around Polar Bears in Greenland and that was enough for me.

There is a club on Sixth Street in Austin that's full of bears every night. Some of them it's hard to tell where the leather ends and the hair starts.

Some of them it's hard to tell where the leather ends and the hair starts. 😝 A friend of mine was showing her father some country back east and a “Bear Lovers” motorcycle club pulled up by the overlook. He father walked up and told them he loved bears also, (he thought they supported bears in the habitat). “Boy them fellows are friendly”, he told her.

Sometimes I am so out-of-time. I was confused about what you guys were refering to as "bears", and had to google the references. Now I wish I hadnt.

I am sorry about that Dewayne, in hindsight I should have said something. It is not a bad idea when searching on the net to type definition before the phrase so as to mitigate pictures popping onto the screen.

The place is called The Iron Bear. After I walked by it the first time I always crossed the street afterwards. No problem, the guys hanging around outside were very polite. VERY polite. Nothing like the crowd outside of a twink bar. 😈
