I've been an Old Boy user for years. I suddenly have the urge to buy a new lighter. Any comments on the Pipemaster?

I have a PipeMaster at hand as I type this and can highly recommend it. It's my hands down my favorite "budget" pipe lighter. I got a matching IMCO Old Boy about the same time 20some years ago and the PipeMaster holds more fuel and has a more consistent flame, works better in a slight breeze and has not been sent in for repair (knock wood).

I have an older Pipemaster that has the lock. It is my favorite lighter. Mine is the old version with the lock. After I laid it on my lap without releasing the lock I found out why they removed it. I prefer it, but I am much more careful setting it down. 🔥😮

Not a fan, based mostly on aesthetics. Mileage varies.

Don't use them. Mostly use Kiribi and Dunhill Rollagas.

Yeah, I was looking at Kiribi too. What're they like?

Yeah, I was looking at Kiribi too. What're they like? I've had a couple. They died.

Yeah, I was looking at Kiribi too. What're they like? I'd rate them as fair. Of three I own, only one works perfectly and has since it was purchased. On the other hand, I have several Rollagas, all vintage models purchased on eBay. I serviced one myself, and two others had serviced. They work flawlessly. I swear by them.

They work flawlessly. I swear by them. I wish someone could get the pipe jet manufactured and on the aftermarket. It would be great to get as part of the do it yourself kits. All my Rollagas and Unique lighters are pipe lighters and I love them.

Never tried a Pipemaster. I use an Old Boy my youngest son gave me some years ago. Still use stick matches too. My old Zippo is pretty much retired even though still in good working order.

Not a fan, based mostly on aesthetics. Mile age varies. What is it that you find aestheticly displeasing? The pipemaster looks industrial, all function and no form. The Old Boy combines the best of both worlds, being both highly functional and beautiful. But thank heavens we don't all have the same druthers; Old Boys are expensive enough!

Mine has the chrome lines.

Elegant solutions are in the eye of the beholder, no? (Certain fields excepted, such as programming and mathematical solutions, where it seems it's more cut and dried as to what's elegant and what's not.)
And, yes, there are better and worse renditions of both styles, again, in the eye of the beholder.

They are both made by the same company.
