You guessed it..This post was brought on by another post here that mentioned waiting in line at the D.M.V....Here in Carolina they have stream line the process..I got my last license on line..Answer a few questions..Pay the money, and they mail you a license good for 5 years..They used my old picture so I don't look as old as I really am..There's a bill going through in the capitol now that says that if you've had Drivers Ed you don't need a road test to get a license..So things are getting easier here in Carolina..Not so much waiting in line any more.

We still have to go in to the DMV every 6 years for a new picture. Last year I waited 5 hours in the license supercenter with a thousand other people. Good thing I had an appointment.

WE been working for two weeks to get an appointment for the wife's eye test; all we get is NO APPOINTMENT... all the way through the end of the year...three different locations ,and nothing!!!
Her permit runs out this month ,I told her to keep driving, and if she gets stopped, tell the cop to go on line and try to get something done.
service has always been pure crap at D.M.V.,only now they can blame it on covid-19

One year, here in Illinois, I was able to renew my license through the mail/internet. I got a letter offering renewal online, so I did. Then I got a sticker in the mail I had to stick to the back of my license. So for 5 years the front of my license looked like it was expired. On back, the sticker gave another expiration date.

“Arizona drivers enjoy an extended driver’s license which does not expire until the age of 65, though vision testing and photo need to be updated every 12 years. Drivers 60 years of age or older will, however, receive a license that is valid for only 5 years”
So if you get your driver license at 18, your don’t go to the DMV till 60.

My wife and I went into the DMV last fall to get the new drivers license with the gold star denoting it as a "REAL ID" compliant driver license - that new federal requirement. Couldn't get it done until last fall, but it had to be done before the deadline this coming fall. While we were there, their computers went down. They could process absolutely nothing. After a while, they told us it would only be another 30 minutes before they were back up. We'd already waited for quite a while so decided to stay. It was 2 more hours before they were up and running again - but we got our DL's updated.
But now, because of COVID, they are delaying the deadline.

... because of covid.
Yeah, here they aren’t considered “essential workers”, so if you have to deal with the MVD it is a nightmare.
We have drivers attempting to get endorsements and license upgrades, it is a nightmare.

I've found Arizona's DMV process the least hassling. The third party places for vehicle stuff sure helps! But... I still have to update mine to that stupid travel ID.. Better do it before October, though I'm not planning to fly to Vegas so I should be ok anyhow.

I hear you... in normal times they are better than California’s, under the covid restrictions it is a nightmare.

The covid restrictions are affecting everything, of course, but I have to say that my DOL experiences here in Washington have never required me to wait for really long periods. I remember a 45 minute wait once, but normally I'm through pretty quickly. It cannot be my charm or good looks, but I do try to pick times that are less likely to be busy (whenever that is...mostly I'm just lucky). I also have to say that the employees at the DOL have always been at least courteous, if not actually friendly.

The NM license I received long ago is good until age 70. That is 16 months from now. At that time I will have to comply with "The Real Deal ID Act" . This means I must bring in a birth certificate showing I'm 'merican. Also need documents proving I live where I hang my hat. A Social Security Card is also required. I found the original SS card issued to me in 1864, no, it was 1964. It was a long time ago. Along with my original Selective Service Registration Card, you know, the Draft Card I never burned . With all of that I ought to receive a prize but expect only a license good for a few years.

Last time I renewed my license was last fall. I think it's the first time I've had to go to the DMV (dept of licensing, DOL here) in WA since moving here 11 years ago. Other renewals have been handled online.
They have a website that shows wait times at DOL locations. The one in town had a multiple hour wait. The one 20 minutes up the road, zero wait. Literally, in and out in 5 minutes. I couldn't believe it.

I just renewed mine in September and now I have to go do it again for the move. The County place is 3 miles away and usually looks abandoned.
