Greetings all. This month marks my 1 year anniversary for pipe smoking and I have to say that it has been a gratifying ride. Like most everyone else, I started with the usual aromatics like Lane 1-Q and a few others with cute-sey names which didn't last long and soon discovered English, then Balkan blends. Then on to Virginia blends.
As my palette develops, I am finding myself drawn to some very nice VaPer's. The 4 blends I have open and am working on right now are:
Peter Heinrich's Curly Block - Pain in the a$$ to prep but the reward is worth the effort
Esoterica Dorchester - Splendid high quality Virginia's with just a hint of Perique, and the addition of an Apricot topping was truly inspired
Dan Tobacco Salty Dogs - My, oh my is this stuff good! Rich and complex! Probably my favorite (right now)
Esoterica Dunbar - Hay field freshness with a little barnyard aroma thrown in for good measure. Delightful smoke
Anyway, I am fairly active on the "other" site and though I would wander over and say hello!

Congratulations! I will say wait a few years on the aromatics, they're not beginner friendly. After three decades of smoking, I now prefer them over most tobacco varieties.
You may hang around here more often, it's quite a bit friendlier on this side of the internet.

My tastes have gone in cycles and I am happy about that because I have been able to ENJOY many different types of blends. I DO have a bunch of aromatics I have been hankering to try... A bunch of different McClellands that I bought off a forum member that haven't even touched a pipe yet...

Greets/Welcome from 50mile East of Buffalo, NY. Great place here, knew the founder from when he lived in Buffalo. Went thru all the types for years, for past 15 or so, a total lata-holic

Welcome Aboard...After many years of pipe smoking I still smoke mostly Aromatics..I smoke Latakia though when I want that something special..There must be a reason Aromatics have been around forever.

You definitely like some great blends!
I really like PH Curly block, it isn’t so much a pain if you have a sharp knife and a microwave... 12 seconds resting on a paper towel, and you can bleed off some of the moisture.

Hello Sandollars. Your journey sounds much like mine, from aromatics, to English and Balkan blends to Va/Pers. My usual is Match Elizabethan from P&C. Sometimes I treat myself to Orlik Golden Sliced, or Escudo Navy Deluxe
