Greetings, I am new to the forum and to pipe smoking in general. I just received my first pipe recently, this W.O Larsen that I am pretty excited about, and am wondering if anyone could perhaps give me some more information on it. I bought it for just about $90 including shipping. It was described as being from the 1970's but I have had one person tell me from the pics i sent that it looked to be more from the 90's. From the little bit of research i did, it seems that there are 3 eras that the W.O. Larsen's come from, and if it is indeed the 90's, it seems that it could be from the later and less desirable era compared to the first and second eras. Not necessarily that it would be a bad pipe. Anyone able to add any information that would allow me to discern from the second and third era's? (I know the first era had Copenhagen stamped on the pipes as well). Just curious if i got a square deal. I performed a light clean out with a bit of vodka, as I didn't want to use the 70% isopropyl alcohol i had on hand. As I eventually would probably like to do a full "de-ghost" at some point, What is everyone's opinion on 91% isopropyl vs a stronger (more than the 80 proof vodka i used for the cursory cleaning) grain alcohol etc? The pictures are definitely well taken in the post, it's not quite as bright in real life (but in bright sunlight it does brighten up) and it has some scuff marks which you can't really see in the pics (I am thinking he may have oiled it up for the pics as it's quite shiny in these pics) But I still really like it and I'm excited to have it as my first pipe. I have two similarly rusticated Canadians from WO Larsen, this is one of them. STAMPING: W.O. LARSEN HANDMADE MADE IN DENMARK I do not know when mine was made, and there are a lot of Larsen's out there, but dating them is not easy. The stems seem to give the best clues to the pro's, at least that is what Michael Gulker says.

These two that I have, I had been told by a pipe collector that they look like Hans Former Nielsen made them, but I cannot be sure.

It looks like a great pipe regardless of when it was made. How does it smoke?

Sorry, I can't help with any information about the pipe. It's a beauty!
But - welcome to the Patch, from central Illinois.

Again, I'm not going to be much help, except to say welcome to the forum and it looks like a be a 9 pipe.
If you need any help on packing or smoking, or tobacco recommendations, just ask.
Enjoy your stay here.
Somebody will come along soon and hopefully be able to answer your question.
