15 yr old front loader acting up, you have to beat on start button for it to work. Don’t want to spend any money on a 15 yr old appliance. Several years ago I got a Speed Queen Dryer. Talked to wife and told her availability of washing machines are starting to be nil. Talked her into going to local Speed Queen dealer and buy one. She did and asked salesman to hold it as Son in Houston is coming down to bring his possibles to his rent house in Houston. Saved 150$ with cash. Everything is breaking around this old house. I’m next!

The last time we replaced our washer/dryer, during a bathroom/utility room remodel, we ended up going with Speed Queen machines. Top load washer, front load dryer. They don't have a control panel like a rocket ship, with 47 options, but they fit our needs quite well. And they come highly rated for durability. Also, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work on them, just a normal scientist. Good luck!

Damn dryer is making noises like it is about to spit out gears and parts...lifted the top to see if there was anything I could do...all I saw was this really large drum and the belt that rotates it....apparently you have to take the whole front end off to get to anything...when it gives up the ghost, I'll get a new one...til then I'll deal with the noise and hope that it doesn't catch fire.

I feel your pain.
However, I have not used my gas dryer in ten years. One of the advantages of a dry climate is fast drying laundry on the line. Even indoors during winter, dries quick.

The wrinkle prevent setting sure save clothes from coming out badly wrinkled, it occasionally tumbles the load for an hour or so as the clothes cool down, works great. Some of the Gee Whiz features on newer ones are plain silly... the separate washing machine within the washing machine for the wife’s delicates is just another thing to break.

The wrinkle free setting only work if you get the clothes out before they cool down. If you're like me and forget you put clothes in the dryer or you haven't finished your pipe yet, they may come out wrinkled.

When I bought my washer and dryer I discovered a new kind of crazy. You cannot get what you want.
I don't mean they didn't have it, I mean what you want is a bad idea. I wanted a small vertical combination washer/dryer. But I didn't realize that you don't buy for your needs, you buy for the house. Even if you are the only one living there, a three bedroom house needs the regular side by side full sized machines. When you try to sell the house it will be seen as a problem.
I saw ones I like, and I loved the color. They were metallic green, like a sports car. But you should not get the color you like because the dryer is going to last many years beyond the washer, and the fancy color you got will no longer be available and the machines have to be the same color because when you try to sell the house it will be seen as a problem. Buy white, there will always be a white one available years from now.
I was once buying a replacement toilet seat and I found two models that suited and one was about twice the price. I asked the fellow what is the difference and he pointed out a subtle difference in color. One was like "pearl white", and the other was "alabaster white". So I decided on the cheaper one. The fellow immediately asked me which one matches the color of the toilet. As asked what difference that made. He said "you are not married, are you".
