Hey all!
I belong to a men's group here in town and have managed to start a small trend, if you will, of pipe smokers learning the art! More importantly we are having a retreat in October that provides a special opportunity. A bunch of guys with nothin better to do than smoke a pipe and chew the fat. Well, that got me thinking that maybe I could contribute a box-full-o-cobs, pipe nails, and bacca to the many men who haven't gotten to try their hand at it.
Today the first blessing came along as MM just re-stocked their seven day seconds. They also happen to carry some of the most affordable pipe nails I could find.
I need your help choosing a few bulk tobaccos that may be interesting to the cigar smokers, cigarette smokers ect. I know many started with aromatics, and I'm not opposed to having some available but man it's so much easier to smoke an English.
In short: What 3 bulk tobaccos would you suggest as a buffet to choose from for someones first bowl? (Thinking Aro, English, VaPer but feel free to take liberty)
Bonus Question: Do you know of a simple info-graphic on loading and lighting a pipe? Somethin to put next to the basket.
Thanks so much!

Some pouches of
Sir Walter Carter Hall Prince Albert
These would be the best for new pipers. Those Aros and tongue bite travel in the same pack.

Carter Hall - intro burley, never disappoints
C&D Autumn Evening or Sutliff Creme Bruleé - heavy aros that smell heavenly
Arango Balkan Supreme - a sensationally great balkan, at an unbeatable price
I guarantee you'll be left with a bunch of Arango. You'll thank yourself. Haha.

Lane RLP-6, Lane 1Q, and Lane BLWB. Mmm... BLWB... Those three will fix you up until the Online Latakia Legion™ descends and starts telling your folks what they SHOULD enjoy.

If you want to go top shelf, three Watch City blends: Aromatic #7 Deluxe Crumb Cut Flake 558 As an old guy I worked with years ago advised me, it only costs a nickel more to go first class.

I'm all about cigars in the great outdoors but I'd preload the pipes with 1Q and plug the bowl with a coiled up (like a snake) pipe cleaner. I've found it's better to load the first pipe myself so they get the right draw the first time. The key to determining tobacco selection is if they are cigarette or seasoned cigar smokers for the trial blend.
If I was planning the event I'd get a low price bundle or three of mild long fill cigars with Connecticut shade wrappers and design a tag or secondary band to commemorate the event accompanied with a basket of take home cutters and torches. The little touches make lasting memories.

Easy.....4Noggins sells John Patton bulk-tobaccos. Some of the most popular, and some of the best Patton blends are mixed with cigar leaf. Def try: "Storm Front" and a maybe few others.
Have fun.

I would suggest C & D Yorktown. Nothing fancy - just straight Virginia, baby!

Sutliff 507C is a Virginia flake. It is my go to daily smoke. It is wonderful for the price and is just a no nonsense tobacco if you want that. Or if you want to pay attention to it the flake Virginia can be as deep as you want to go.

MacBaren Scottish Mixture is a great lightly-sweetened Virginia mixture... think honey on toast. It's often available in bulk.

One of my first blends was Pirate Kake and it almost turned me away from the pipe for good. Granted I enjoy it alot now with some experience under my belt , that just goes to show you what the learning curve can do.

You're going to get as many opinions as there are pipe smokers. LOL
The Amphora pouches have some nice options and are readily available.
- Original: Virginia forward with a nice mix of Turkish and a little Burley - Burley: Burley forward with a light cocoa topping - Virginia: Blend of only Virginia tobaccos
I'd also second two of the OTC's listed above ... SWR and CH
