I am watching it now.
"Seven women", 1966.
Missionaries trapped on the Chinese/Mongolian border by a big, bad, warlord and his crew.
IF there was tension before among the ladies, now there is a real sweat. Ann Bancroft is here, playing, well, Ann, and that is plenty disturbing for most missionaries and bandits, alike.
Ford'd final picture. "The Old Master" himself as Orson Wells used to call him.

Wow! Powerful film. He had something to say about society and its mores. This one was close to "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and its moral tone.
You know, if Ford had not chosen to be a film maker, he would have been one Hell of a Priest!!!!! Can you imagine his Gospels?
I think he would have deafened Ingmar Bergman.

Interesting timing … we just watched "Tobacco Road" yesterday and it was tough to make it all the way through!

I'll have to check it out. The Mongol Warlord is played by Mike Mazurzki and he is appropriately unsympathetic. His right hand bandit is played by Woody Strode. He is excellent as usual. One of Anne Bancroft's best IMHO>
