I've been drinking bottled water for a few weeks..Now I don't like tap water..Seems like I can taste the chemicals in it..I think I'm hooked on the bottled stuff even though It cost a little bit of money..It's not like the old days when you could build a house by a creek and get all the fresh water you wanted for free.

Yeah Larry, typically the city water tastes like crap.
I have a water softener and reverse osmosis with a line dedicated to the ice maker/ chilled water on the fridge.
And the showers are great, no hard water issues.
One of the luxuries that are worth it.

It may be cheaper in the long run to contract with a water delivery service. They provide the cooler / dispenser and bring a set amount of water jugs per week or month.
For us, the artesian well on the property was one of the biggest selling points … rare commodity in the desert. However, it is fairly hard water due to the limestone it travels through and we have a whole house water system as well.
To the point though … yes, city water is usually horrid.

Living in a small community, we are fortunate that our "city" water actually tastes pretty good.
That being said, my mancave doesn't have any plumbing. So, I buy the big packs of bottled spring water and keep em in the fridge.

Our water at the new house tastes great. We buy a lot of bottled water too because of working outside and such, but we refill about half of them from the tap. It's soft water too.

Just so you know, a couple of years ago I did some web work for a lady whose husband worked at a water bottling company. They suck their water out of the dirty old Trinity River, chemicalize the everliving crap out of it, and sell it to bottled water companies like Aquafina and the like.
I'm not saying it's better or worse than tap water, just that if you think you're getting fresh spring water from the stream behind the plant, you're probably not.

I keep a brita filter pitcher in the fridge. Works for me and way better then straight tap water.

My Grandparents lived on the continental divide in Colorado, they had a spring filled well, and the water was simply amazing, even as a kid I remember being a chugaholic when going up there. Years after I had grown up, the University of Colorado sent researchers up there, because there was an unusually low amount of people that had issues of the innards. I never did hear if they concluded anything, but the water had to be minerally pretty rich and it was up by the headwaters at the source. Back in the 90's I visited my brother that lived in Desert Hot Springs California, (across the tracks from Palm Springs). He had an igloo jug on the counter, I asked about it and he told me that the city water supply come straight from 400 year old natural hot springs, and was pretty darn hot at the tap. They regularly win the best municipal quality award on water on a global scale. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Hot_Springs_(thermal_mineral_springs)

Too many recalls on bottled water, I'll never touch it. Arsenic I believe was the cause of the most recent one. Well and Spring are all I'll ever drink.

In California or Arizona, if I am buying bottled water it is from Crystal Geyser, they bottle it at Olancha Peak from the springs.
Nestle locally bottles city water in Phoenix, and filters it.

The old adage comes to mind … Evian spelled backwards is "Naïve". LOL

I had great water for 23 years when I lived just outside the city limits and had my own well. After running it through a water softener it tasted great.
And I kept a ridiculous number of aquariums going - mainly raising/breeding African Cichlids - using water straight from the well, bypassing the softener. The mineral rich water was perfect for them.
After I moved back into town 5 years ago I started buying bottled water. Couldn't stand the taste of treated water.

I hate chemical tasting water too. My local community water service does treat the water, but with the use of two Brita water filtering pitchers in my refrigerator I get to enjoy good tasting water all day long. The regular tap water works fine for showers, washing machines, etc. Since I feel some retail bottle water could be no better than normal city tap water, I use purchased bottle water sparingly, such as when I'm away from home and forgot to bring my own bottled water filled from my own Brita pitchers.

Growing up I suffered horrible city water and well water at the lake. I grew up drinking that nasty water from a shared sink cup or out of the garden hose. I don't think I ever had a bottle of water till the Chicago Pipe show moved to Pheasant Run Resort in 2000. PR's water stunk like rotten eggs and the rooms all had bottled water provided. I've got safe, good tasting water here in Lax and exceptional tasting water at my home in SoAZ.

I grew up in a city with fluoridated water, and as a result have very few fillings now.
The city in which I now live has decent drinking water, but it isn't fluoridated. Plus, the kids (and I) much prefer the taste of bottled water from our water cooler. Plus it's always cold. The family is drinking a lot more water since we got the cooler.
