Got my blasting setup all, well, setup today. 220 went in for the compressor this morning. Installed my new SkatBlast gun and pickup tube (beats the pants off the stock HF one that came with the cabinet. Well, I guess that should be obvious). I gave it a go for 20 minutes so far. What I found was that I have a lot to learn, but I feed on that, so now the fun begins. Test subject #1, unfinished junk stummel:

I've heard that it takes longer to do a proper blast than a smooth or rusricated pipe. And it's more complicated than it should be. Good luck. Something like a Radice Silk Cut would be nice. It only took him 30 years to make it look right.

It only took him 30 years to make it look right. Smooths take the longest. You have to nail every line and detail. A blast will take longer than a rusticated, by far. That's not to say that a blast is easy, by any means. To keep things even is going to be a learning experience. But, a nice smooth is still the king of craftsmanship, as far as I'm concerned.

Jason, don't be too quick to throw away what you call "junk stummels". I would put some stain on them and see what they look like.

If you want this defect of a nosewarmer anse, let me know. It does have character! And, the chamber isn't compromised.

I've been working on stummels for BrunoT for months, because the first FOUR blocks had compromising faults. That was is a good "oh shite", though.

I am absolutely amazed at the skill you and your fellow artist have. I have a 1973 Shopsmith, which gives me almost all the tools I need, but I am not sure I have any of the skill

I guess it'll be a shop pipe, but at least it's semi-nice for once! I think it looks sweet.

You need to add a footed cutty to the blast list. Sweet looking pipe IMO.
