Been smoking a pipe for about 18 years now. For the last five, I have refused to smoke anything but a gourd calabash. I wanted something more portable and durable, and Falcon was the closest thing in design to a calabash without being huge.
Well it's amazing. Totally exceeded all of my expectations. Maybe not quite as good as my gourd (and why would anyone expect it to be), but man it's close. Might not be able to power through virginias like my gourd, but it has done incredible so far with EMP.
I think it's actually beating my gourd in the area of keeping the bottom of the bowl dry, allowing it to be smoked to the bottom without getting that beat up quality to the smoke. It's also incredibly easy to keep lit, just like a calabash is. Once you get it established, you don't have to babysit it, which is great if you're doing things or trying to carry on a conversation.
So yea, if you haven't tried one you're missing out!
Tried one and shipped it off to New Mexico. I have several Dr Grabow Vikings though. I too have a gourd calabash and a couple of reverse calabashes. You should try a Lorenze Double Filter pipe from Austria. You don't need the filters. It works like a combination Falcon/Viking and a reverse calabash.
I would rather cut off my arm than live under tyranny!
