Watching a documentary on Somewhere in the South, a hand pie factory showing workers coming out the factory at end of day , in the fifties coveralls, hats, the best stories IMO, are from the South. Good food, tragic and not so tragic stories, Faulkner, Mark Twain, Harper Lee. Etc. who doesn’t remember Gregory Peck in zTo Kill A Mockingbird. The South has a tragic history, but man oh man what stories. Old Man remissening!

Gone with The Wind, North and south, Glory, The Alamo...I'm with you, but the folks up North will a have heck of a list too.

True southern hospitality, large close-knit families, and a unique rebelious self-sufficient streak

The best Fried Chicken I have eaten over my entire life, and I have experienced it all over the USA, was in rural North Carolina Low Country at a KFC staffed by old ladies.
In addition, they were polite and mannerly. I love that old southern way minus the racial shite.
To that list of Brad's southern artists, please add Dorothy Parker and Harper Lee's neighbor, old Truman Capote.

Linden is more Old South than the parts of Texas further west. We are liking it. Everyone is very friendly. Doesn't seem to be any racial problems that we have seen and everyone is looking out for their neighbors.

This reminds me of my grand mother..She would often say that a person was so lazy that they wouldn't work as a taster in a pie factory.

I have traveled from from my birth in Washington state to England, Germany, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, England, California, and now reside in Arizona. And. I have traveled extensively through the south. The people could not be a finer lot than what I have experienced travelling through the south..you cannot find another better class of folk.

I was born in the south.I spent a lot of years living up north in a large city...Detroit...I'm used to both life styles..Up north folks said that I was country..Back in the south they say that I've got city ways..Those city ways are coming to the south these days..A lot of folks from up north are moving here..Young folks are moving to the city for work. The old small town farm life is almost gone..Folks are busy with life and in my opinion don't take time to be as friendly as in days of old..There are actually folks who refer N.Carolina not as a southern state but an east coast state..After saying that I will say..I was born in the south. I've never wanted to be any place but here..I will be here until the end.

The South is ingrained into my very existence.I have lived and worked in the North but never felt really comfortable. Nothing short of a half off sale on Prince Albert would get me to cross the Ohio River now.

While it may not be true in all cases, there have been many times when I've asked someone where they are from. Most people in the north will say, "I'm from New Jersey or I'm from Minnesota", or something like that.
People from the south tend to say things like, "I was born in Texas. I was born in New Orleans. I was born in Mobile." Some will tell you what state they were born in or what city.

I will always be a southern boy, no matter how old or how far North I get ( Colorado these days). I think there was just something special about by Southern Coastal childhood....I am always the happiest on the beach! McG

McG I tell people I was born in Port Arthur, Texas, the birthplace of Janis Joplin and Jimmy Johnson. I know what you mean about the beach but for me, it's just being on the water. My father was a towboat captain and I spent 21 years in the Coast Guard.

I missed my annual trip to Louisville this year. It’s a nice place to visit. Hope I can go next year.
