Long the King of the V-8, I have missed Ford producing a big block powerhouse which runs on gasoline. For over 20 years they relied on International for a light truck worthy engine, the PSDs. Now they have announced the 7.3 liter gasoline ppowered push rod V-8. 430 horsepower, 475 ft lbs torque. 10.5:1 compression with aluminum pistons (that worries me. Homey no likey aluminum pistons).
Anyway, it is nice to see a big block gasoline powered pushrod V-8 once again.
For a mere $8,573 you can have one in a crate to replace whatever.

Sounds like one heck of an engine! The 5.4L Triton V8 is still kicking strong in my '98 Ford with 180,000 miles.

They bought a 34 ft travel trailer late last year and a new F150 with the Ecoboost and it wasn't enough truck. The new one is.

minor Ed rant: Few & far between but far as I know, NO full size that folks actually DRIVE it themselves. No, they AIM it. I'm in control of the gear changing not some $1000 slushbox that shifts when IT feel like it. Boring, left foot just sits the till ya get to cruising speed...owned ONE for a short time yrs ago. Never again. My '05 Ranger now has a Mustang GT engine, supercharger. 1st gear torque amazing. Even at 150k miles still can do 0-60 in under 6secs (when out on the road). Next vehicle, Toyota Tacoma, 287hp V6 and yeah, clutch pedal. New Ranger, 4cyl something & 10-speed slushbox.
Only IMO exception and understand...folks with more or less disabled left knee/foot/ankle...ya gots no choice anyhow. Don't matter what brand, all seem to be slushbox enyhow
And I'm near 80 (end of Dec). DRIVE, not AIM

I have never trusted automatics in trucks which haul loads even though they have been greatly improved over the year. For me, clutch and lever is the only way. Fossil that I am.

I used to prefer standards, but after 4 of my first 6 vehicles were standard, my left knee started giving out and I had broken right ankle, I came to appreciate an automatic. The old TorqueFlight behind the slant six was good, the PowerGlide sucked IMHO, and the 8-speed in Ram is unbelievably good. Also, I don't know of any engine that doesn't use aluminum pistons.

You are right about pistons being aluminum mostly.

Hey you asked for a cast iron piston Ron. Fun fact when Cummins introduced the phenolic piston on the N14 it darn near bankrupted them from loss of engine kits.
