I know it's a bit of a weird title, but these were the things that came to mind after today's visit to the local B&M As some of you here know, I live in a small town in NC. In the adjoining town is a B&M, The Matchbox, that I've been visiting since I moved here 15 years ago. Emmitt, the retired USAF gentleman that started it some 20 years ago passed away around 4 years ago. Afterwards his wife gave me a box of pipes and pipe stuff that had belonged to him, knowing that I refurbed pipes and gave them to our men in uniform, along with cigars and pipe tobacco. Today, while having a cigar and a cup of coffee in the lounge there, I was presented with this box... Upon opening it this is what I saw... I was told that an older gentleman stopped by the shop earlier this week and handed them this box. He was told by his doctor that he had to give up his pipes. Not wanting them to be put away in the attic and eventually being sold at a garage sale for $5, he asked them if they knew anyone that would want them? Turns out, I'm the guy.... I haven't really looked over the pipes yet and don't know what make's they are. I'm also unfamiliar with this particular of tobacco. My plan is to clean up the pipes, over the winter, and give them to our service men overseas and to the various veteran organizations that give them to our vets. If, however any of you out there see a pipe in the pics that you want, PM me and I'll send it your way free.... You just pick up the shipping. Same goes for the pipe stands or ashtray. I've got way more of these things than I need. Back to the title of this post.... Both of the mentioned songs were the first thing that came to mind as I was going through this all. I can't help but wonder how old these different pipes are? What memories this box must hold for this older gentleman. Cheers

Symphony is good stuff. I've got a Don Carlos volcano dedicated to it.

These pipes are quite seasoned! As for Symphony it's a great Burley based mixture and fairly under the radar. This is making me reach towards a tin and open it.

I know "Bonanza" well from the chats. Great guy & adding kudos for all the good things he does for the project coming up. Sure they'll be well distributed. Carry on good guy!

I am pretty sure that the McB tins are pretty old, I had bought some bulk Symphony a few years back, lacking age on it, was still good though, age would really be an improvement.
Nice going, Dino!

Hey gang,
Just got home from a weekend away with Blondie and our son Seth.
I've had several inquiries. I'll go through things tomorrow and will let you all know what is available.
A few points....
1. They pipes that are available will be free of charge, you all will just need to pay for the shipping. 2. They will not be refurbished... In other words, they'll be as is 3. The tobacco has all been spoken for
Thanks
Dino

That's a great story, Dino. Are you keeping any pipes yourself?
