Earlier this week I was informed by the Commander of Home Operations (Blondie) that we were doing a weekend getaway with our son Seth. Turns out that we were headin down to Georgia. We started out with a visit to the Anna Ruby Falls, a nice half mile hike up a mountainside to see some neat waterfalls. After that we made our way down to Helen Ga. A quaint little town in a picturesque little valley. Neat back story, back in the 60's a few local business owners got together to decide what they could do to revive their little town that was a struggling logging village. They hired someone to give them advice and it was decided to remake the place as a Bavarian Alpine village. Now it's home of the Longest Octoberfest in the US. From Sep through the first of November... Needles to say, we had a great time. Drank plenty of Germany's finest and had a great dinner.... Cheers

Lederhosen and a hat Dino or it didn’t happen!
Just kidding.
Glad to hear you had a great time, and the longer I live I realize that sometimes our wives offer great advice that in hindsight really pay off... I think we both married up in that regard.
I had Lederhosen as a kid in Germany, but would probably look silly in white knobby knees.

I don't see a lot of masks. Good luck! I know! It was GREAT! It was quite nice to be in an environment where the majority of the folks present weren't mindless main stream media consuming sheeple. Cheers

I'm with you, Calabash...200,000 dead is not being a sheeple...just at my age, I'm not ready to die because I choose to be stupid.

Not passing judgement - but -
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the leading causes of death for Americans per year are heart disease (647,457) and cancer (599,108). The third-leading cause of death per year, accidents (169,936), has been surpassed by COVID-19.

Guys,
Although I respect your right to believe what/who you want to, I am in complete disagreement and think the entire thing is a gross miscarriage of professional responsibility of the media and our elected leaders, that have chosen to use this as a weaponized tool to place fear in the hearts of our fellow citizens.
That being said, I didn't create this post to illicit hyperbole from the left or the right.
So, if you want to comment on octoberfest, Helen Ga, or how much beer I obviously consumed this weekend have at it!
But if you want to beat your political drum... Start your own thread.
cheers

I visited Asheville NC once just to sample the numerous local breweries there. Great time.

Despite the fact that we didn't hear any Oompah music the entire time, the beer is traditional German offerings.

Sounds great not being confined to house and to afraid to go out and a have a beer and something to eat while just hanging out with other folks. 234,000 folks had non fatal accidents in the bathroom but being a rebel I still take my chances.

Wearing a mask to protect yourself and others shouldn't be political - it's just common sense. We could have already been over this pandemic if people weren't so selfish and whiny and concerned about "owning the libs."

Guys, masks / COVID-19 is a volatile topic that needs to be put to bed on this forum. We saw what happened around March on the forum and I don't want it to happen again.
Let's keep the replies on Oktoberfest or I'm afraid the thread will be locked. I don't want to do that.
I'd love to go to the real Oktoberfest in Germany some day. I'd say the atmosphere is amazing.

Dude, you threw gas on the flames. Don't be coy and say "who...me?" lol If people are comfortable going out, awesome. It's a free Country after all. Never been a huge fan of Octoberfest. But I always liked the beer girl outfits.

As someone who has handled, literally, hundreds of Covid swabs and performed the actual testing, I also have my own opinion. However, this is not the place to discuss it.
