Something my father used to say.
"Grummett's don't climb trees. We fall out of them"

My father used to say "Somebody get me a spoon! I gotta boat to catch!"
He wasn't well.

My mom was 5'2" and used to tell my 6'5" dad that "The bigger they are, the harder they fall." Dad would reply, "The bigger we are, the harder we hit." They were great together.

I would burp at the table, then say "excuse me", to which my mom always replied "there's no excuse for you".

"No if's, and's or buts about it" God, I can't count the number of times I heard that one. My mom was an English major, so I also heard "Ain't ain't a word mf" on a regular basis.

Ever see "F is for Family"? Some classics said by the father sure to spark memories from the 70's childhood. Lol
When my dad got mad enough he'd sometimes say, "I'll put you through that wall"!

My dad was a pretty hard person, he didn't hold back and could deliver some lines that were uncalled for, unlike some of the folksy quotes presented here. I determined to watch my words more carefully with my kids, even then even though it wasn't a "saying" of mine I once remarked to my wife in front of my oldest daughter after she had done some sort of offence and said: "I could have killed her". She was later sobbing in her bedroom, she took me literally. I had to do some fence mending on that one and felt like bad dad of the year. The quote my kids tired of was when they came up with "great ideas" on what we should do as a family, and I would say : let's not, and say we did". My son recently asked what I wanted for father's day I told him that the F-350 super duty King ranch would fit the bill, the quote came back to haunt me.

My dad used to use "Schwanz" as a verb. When I found out, as an adult, what it meant, I was convinced that he didn't know what it meant. At least I hope he didn't.

I once heard a pastor (that had obviously been raised in a sterile environment) from a pulpit state the the church would be serving tube steaks after the service, and the deacons would be heading it up. Someone obviously once told him that the hot dogs we were serving that day was a tube steak...he didn't know the street version, and I was a deacon.

When my children would be going somewhere with their friends, I would always tell them to, "Have fun and behave. If you can't do both, just behave." Another one I've said often enough that it's become seared in their brains is: "A child without discipline is an accident waiting to happen."

Close the door. Where you born in a barn? I heard that a million times in my life. The only one my kids will get me for is when my daughter starts running her mouth and I'll say OK mini me knock it off.
