Some times when I'm sitting alone smoking my pipe my mind goes on a road trip..For some reason last night I was wondering if right to carry laws are different from state to state..And if they are what one does on a vacation that covers several states.

Right to carry laws vary widely from state to state. One would usually be advised to check the individual laws of each state to be visited on vacation, and to follow that state's particular laws while there. Or to not carry at all. Im not saying that I do either of those 2 particular things...but that would usually be the best legal advice.

The laws do vary from state to state - and not all states will honor your state's permit. You need to check each states laws. There are apps that help. I have an Illinois permit, and a non-resident permit from Florida so I can carry in more states than the Illinois permit alone would allow. Still can't carry in any state on west coast, Colorado, many states in the northeast, and a few others.

You don't want to have an issue, know the State laws. For traveling, I would have it packed away with the ammo in a separate location.

All the information above is accurate...check each state that you are traveling through to prevent an unhappy vacation.

I think it sucks that I can't ride my motorcycle while packing to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine without crossing that damned black patch of New York. 👹👺

Just clear the Ball Turret on your truck and store the ammo belts in back. You will be fine.

Pay attention to Ron and instymp‘s links.
You have to do homework on this, you get it wrong, find yourself in the gravest extreme, and you can be destroyed financially, and in prison.
I try to avoid the states that protect the turds more than law abiding citizens, so I rarely spend a nickel in turdish run states.

Travel to "blue" NYS or NJ. Get to see what happens when the First and Second Amendment are nullified!
What's that saying? ...."As the twig is bent....."

The best reference I know of is THE GUN LAWS OF THE 50 STATES. Published annually and written by a lawyer. If you travel with firearms it would almost foolish to travel without it. Better safe than sorry. Available in many outlets, just goog it. (About $20 delivered.)

I have a gun what shoots water. Should I load it with whiskey instead?

I have a gun what shoots water. Should I load it with whiskey instead? Or bourbon. In any event, make sure of your target when you gently squeeze the trigger.

I had an Uberti Winchester 1873 reproduction. I had cartridges reloaded with fffg Black Powder. After about 20 or so rounds, the rifle fouls pretty good. The traditional method of cleaning on the battlefield is to pee down the barrel and into the receiver. This I did and it worked fine for another series of rounds,. Thorough cleaning once home.
Thought you might be interested.
BTW, that was one accurate and quiet rifle. I wish it had never been sold.

Years ago....I read a book, having that exact phrase for a title..."In The Gravest Extreme" written by Massad Ayoob. In this instructive book, Ayoob... (I believe he's in Law Enforcement)....outlines the circumstances, merits and demerits with the open or concealed carrying and use of a firearm, and especially the circumstances for using a pistol for self defense. Even if you have a permit, you are not out of the woods, even if the shoot was justified. The book was a real eye opener. I'm sure the self-defense laws have become much stricter, and biased.... and the complicated, arbitrary, open/concealed carry laws far more restrictive since this book went into print at least 20-25 years ago. I urge anyone who does or wants to carry a concealed firearm to read this book. And.... keep a good lawyer on a retainer.

We took an empty cartridge, braised a copper nipple over the empty primer hole, and attached a short piece of tubing to the nipple. After a few shots we would insert this dummy cartridge in the breech, and exhale 3 or 4 long, slow breathes down the bbl. The warm, moist air would keep the fouling soft, and then the following shots would then take it on out.

I have trained under Massad, he is a great guy with outstanding credentials, quite often he is called upon to give his opinion as an expert in cases. His writings are a great way to inform yourself on this issue. americanhandgunner.com/category/our-experts/ayoob-files/
