Jason Thompson, who lives nearby, was gracious to offer to let me use his sandblast set up to treat two pipes which he had seen in production. He helped me with the first, an undistinquished billiard, then I did these two on my own. I am very pleased with these pipes. The second will go to Jason in gratitude for his help. I learn a great deal each time I visit his shop. DocAitch

Hi, real chunky, beefy pipes , sandblast & rustification improves a plain briar remarkably sir, bye. I would not describe either of these as "chunky and beefy". I guess some perspective is lost because of a lack of other objects in the pictures. The second one reminds me of an Anne Julie that I owned some 40 years ago, which I sold and would dearly love to own now. DocAitch.

Hi, only in the sense that they have a freehand feel , and with the stoneblast they are not polished, & do not remind me of classic shapes, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder & I favour Rhodesians, Bulldogs & Pokers, which to my beginners eye are chunky and beefy in a classic sense, but I like them whatever you call them sir. Bye for now.

Fantastic pipes especially the cherry wood! I like the freehand stems too. Congrats, this is professional work indeed.

PS, to my perspective the Billiard is the pure Classic style, with derivatives such as the pure Dublin & Canadian & Liverpool but I have a lot to learn about the art & science of pipe styles. But I bet they smoke like a dream, the proof of the pudding is in the eating , hi.

The pros are almost unanimous in their recommendation that the billiard is the shape on which to hone your skills. it is deceptively simple in appearance, but devilishly difficult, especially for a shape 1st, drill 2nd freehand carver such as me.

Very nice work, Doc. Both are styles that appeal to me. Thanks for showing them.

Nicely done, Doc. That Billiard is very well proportioned. Maybe a touch too tall in the bowl, but it certainly does not take away from its beauty.
