Good afternoon gentlemen and gentlewomen. Long time pipe smoker here, who most recently pretty much exclusively smoked cigars for the past 15 years or so, mostly out of convenience, but I started with a pipe as a 16 year old high school student. I served in the US Navy from 1967 to 1973, at which time I smoked cigarettes. Once in awhile I would be able to get a cigar or two, but no pipe tobacco. At any rate, here I am an old man who still has to work to pay my bills and mortgage. Over the past 15 years or so I have spent a fortune on the best quality cigars I could find and afford. I still have probably close to 800 or so cigars "resting" (properly humidified at at the correct temperature) in 9 airtight "food quality" containers and 3 spanish cedar lined humidors. I have to admit I have not had a cigar in over a month or two. But they will wait for me I am sure.
So I decided to get all my old pipes out of retirement and put some tobacco in them and take them for a spin. I started back up by buying several ounces of my old favorites, and that has grown to seriously studying pipe tobacco reviews and I now have 40 some Mason jars all labelled and contributing to my tobacco enjoyment. Pipe smoking is a lot less expensive than cigar smoking, assuming you already have the pipes of course. My office closet has 3 shelves dedicated to cigars and pipe tobacco.
I have to admit that I am once again in love with my pipes and the tobacco filling them. I have been smoking 3 or 4 bowls a day (outside, my wife will not allow me to smoke inside) in southern New Jersey "winter temperatures", or in my garage which is just as cold. I look forward to the spring weather so I can smoke while lounging on my screen porch listening to some music.
So thanks for allowing an old Sailor to come aboard, and as experienced as I think I am, to learn more even as an old man. Also, I think I can add significantly to the knowledge base here to fellow "pipers".
