Howdy, folks. Thanks for having me here. Looks like a friendly, informative place and I’m glad to be here. I figure it’s only polite to introduce myself.
I’m pre-war issue (5/‘39) and live on a small ranch about a mile north of the Platte in the southern reaches of the Nebraska Sandhills. Isolated, quiet, safe (mostly), and chock full of deer, turkeys, and an occasional visiting lion. Good living!
I started smoking when I went off to college. Both my mom and dad smoked but did not like the idea of me doing it. I can still remember the pleasure derived from opening a fresh pack of Camels (no filters, of course) and running that smooth paper under my nose to get those delicious flavors! Pipes came along soon after.
I quit all tobacco in ‘85. I was going back and forth between cigs and pipes and inhaling both so I figured it was time to quit. Just a couple of weeks ago I discovered an ancient humidor and the aroma— even crisp as a fossil— jogged me to think about pipes again. So, after a 35-year recess I am a newbie again.
I live alone so nobody to bug me about the smoke. Just me and my dogs and they don’t seem to mind.
Not to get too wordy, but my pleasure in pipes and tobacco is closely related to their... civility. I like the ritual of it, kinda like the Japanese tea ceremony but a little more free-form.
Really looking forward to learning here. Thanks for having me.

adding welcome/greets from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Long timer with the hobby, still enjoying same. Settled in on heavy latakia blends 15yrs ago, cigar only when outside.
Kinda kidding myself but YOU seem to have bumped me back to 2nd in "seniority" (near 30yrs on the railroad formerly before getting Reaganized in '89...seniority was everything). Hope you have a good time here, a great bunch of folks Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY (12/29/40 pipe/cigar since '62

Welcome to the Patch. From New Mexico, Land of Confusion. - Isn't there that saying that your only as old as the pipe that you feel? I guess that would make me between 6 months and 110 years old.

Hello, Goldbrick and thanks for the welcome. Always nice to chat with another dog guy. My dogs are Deutsch Kurzhaars, AKA/ German Shorthaired Pointers. I currently have only two, Jack, who is ten, and Eli, who is five months today. (I'll try to post pics when I learn how to do it...)

Sounds like a beautiful spot you live in. I started my tobacco journey with Camel non filter as well. Along with Players and English Ovals. Quit when I went into the Air Force and picked up the pipe about five years after I got out. Enjoy your stay.
