I enjoy Royal Yacht. I went to tobaccoreviews.com today to see if I could learn any more about it, and they classify it as an "aromatic." Granted, I don't have a lot of experience with aromatics, but I certainly don't get that from it. I do, however, get an aromatic vibe from Old Joe Krantz. Weird.

RY is definitely an aromatic, proving that an aromatic doesn't have to smell good.

I just got another 2 tins, to confirm that I never thought it was exceptional when bought in the past. Confirmed. To me.

An aromatic, it is, but it is more of a topping than a casing for sure. I believe plum is being used for it. In any case, it's a good tobacco for sure.

I would never have thought of it as an aromatic, but, like Ron said, if there is an aroma it's an aromatic... The aroma doesn't have to smell nice. Although in that logic, since all pipe tobaccos have an aroma, in a sense they're all aromatics.
I believe my logic might be flawed.

Aromatics used to only be latakia, orientals, and certain Virginias and flavored blends were just flavored blends. By modern definition, RY is definitely an aromatic, but aroma doesn't equal aromatic. Were that the case, any Navy blend with rum would be classed as an aromatic but they're not.
RY is one of the only tobaccos that I couldn't finish the pipe and had to throw away the tin.
