Good day. As mentioned in the subject my name is Ted. I’m a retired military officer, three years now and loving every minute of it! I’ve been a cigar smoker since 2010, my last tour in Afghanistan, where I fell in love with this mysterious tobacco. I guess, over time, it’s only natural to move into the pipe world. Like a kid at a candy shop I’m trying as many different pipe tobaccos in order to find my own niche. Like a lot of newbies I’ve started with aromatics and gradually moving towards English blends.
Living in WA my question to you is this: why can I not order pipe tobacco on line yet cigars are fine? Also, as there are no B&M’s left carrying quality pipe tobacco (sorry Captain Black from a gas station doesn’t cut it), if you’re from WA and know of any reputable B&M’s where I can order online, I’d love to hear from you.
cheers... Ted.

Welcome to the patch from central Illinois.
Don't know why WA is the way it is about pipe tobacco. Government over reach if you ask me.
Good brick and mortar Pipe Shops are hard to find these days or I'd suggest a road trip to a neighboring state. Maybe a post office box in a neighboring state?

Welcome Ted, from the High Plains. I can't help you with your WA problem, but there is a lot to learn from the folks around here. Good luck with the tobacco search.

Welcome to the Patch. Washington state is tough ground for tobacco in general. I believe that shipments of most things are off limits. I hope I'm wrong on that.

Hi, Ted. I live 40 miles south of Spokane, and there is a nice B&M in town there with quality tobacco, nice selection of pipes and a decent cigar humidor. They are a couple of great guys that run it. It's called Tobacco World, and its in the old Flour Mill.
Feel free to pm me if I can help further.
And with 2 sons of my own in the military, I want to say thank you for your service.

Welcome to the patch, from Ireland. I wasn't aware that WA was so strict on pipe tobacco sales, but cigars are ok. That really sucks. As has already been mentioned, hopefully others from WA will be able to help you out on this dilema.

By the way Ted, if you see any rude comments about "Ted", please note that the person referred to is an Ex member who caused a lot of trouble. Don't assume that we are talking about you. Hopefully, it won't come up again, but I thought you should be aware.

greets/welcome from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Yeah, WA just plain nasty in the tobacco respect. There exists a Seattle Pipe Club...some well known members & a popular blend called Plum Pudding created by one of them. If you can find them, sure to be help.
My son/family are in Shoreline (Seattle suburb). Had to return there from Spokane as their special education (for 13yr special needs daughter) not good. Now she's as "ok" as probably gonna get.

Gentlemen, thank you all for your warm wishes and welcome. Also, and for the record, I’m NOT that other Ted who caused and created a lot of grief on this platform. Being a newbie piper I welcome your suggestions and words of wisdom with all things pipe. I must say, although very brief, my journey on all things pipe has been interesting and enjoyable! All the best. Ted aka Taiguy.

Hey, Ted, welcome aboard. If it's not too far a drive, make friends with someone in Oregon, they can still receive shipments.

Welcome from Northern California. As mentioned above there is a Seattle Pipe Club famous for its blends as well as club activities. I suggest contacting them. They're likely to have the most comprehensive information about B&Ms and obtaining tobacco in WA.

If you're in western WA I can heartily recommend the Cargo Hold in Poulsbo, run by a gentleman named Doug with decades of experience in the business. It's not the largest shop but everything there is quality, and he has a nice selection of pipes and bulk and tinned tobacco.

The Kitsap pipe club meets there, if you can attend one of their meetings or the Seattle Pipe club, it would really help to answer your Wa state specific questions. unitedpipeclubs.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=90797&module_id=195858
