Ok gents... being a newbie I’m throwing this one out. A new pipe arrived today (up until now I’ve been using a Ronaldo Silver Line that’s already been “broken in”) and wondering what is the “best” way to break in a new pipe? I’ve heard some people say “start with half a bowl” and gradually work your way forward building up a sufficient cake. Yes, no, other tried and true methods? Thanks in advance.

I never did anything special when I broke in a new pipe. But I’ve only been pipe smoking for about 6 years or so.

Cake isn't neccessary at all. Briar is very dense and burn resistant. Fill that pipe up and smoke it and when finished, dump the contents and wipe out the chamber with a paper towel. You'll build a thin, dense carbon layer with this method, and likely will never have to ream the pipe.

I would say..Smoke slow the first few bowls..I've actually had some pipes that smoked good from the first bowl.

Just pack a regular bowl, smoke, dump and repeat.

I would agree... Load it up and smoke it as normal. That's what I do and I've not noticed any difference.

Thanks again fellas. There’s so much conflicting information out there it’s hard to distinguish what’s “real” and fake news. Glad I went to the source.😁🤛

Yep, no need to make a labor of breaking in a pipe. Load it, light it and love it.
