Very early in my return to the world of pipes I chose a tobacco that “sounded good.” Sutliff Z92 Vanilla Custard Cream. I bought a pouch on a lark, along with others. Liked it much. Bought a pound. Have now smoked half of that. It has become my daily smoke, my go-to, despite having bought about a dozen other pouches of different tobaccos. This is definitely in line with the cosmic theory of blind squirrels finding nuts. But thank goodness for that!

I am glad you found something you enjoy so much. That's what I think pipe smoking is about. Time to calm down, finding different blends you enjoy. It doesn't need to be complicated, find what you like and have fun along the way. Good on you! 👍👍

I started with 1Q, and I could have been happy with just that, but I'm glad I branched out. I get bored easily. 😉🤠 I too like Vanilla Custard.

Years ago you could buy it at either CVS or Walgreens I doubt they sell it anymore. They also had a cherry and a light burley.

I don't know about "Blind squirrels and nuts" but you are a lucky man to land on a tobacco you love early in the TAD journey! Then again, what's wrong with having 125+ blends sitting around in jars, tins, and bags?

You got lucky right out of the gate. Enjoy, and don't hesitate to try a few more. You'll be surprised with the variety available.

I enjoy the variety very much. Something I have discovered about the Z91: I can ‘stir the dottle’ and lightly pack it and then smoke it right down to ash without any bite or nasty taste. Can’t do that with most of the others I have right now.

Speaking of lucky picks...may I suggest you get a bit of butternut burley (P&C) a Scotties blend. Much as I hate P&C this particular tobacco is something I can't get enough of which is why I bought another pound and am trading some other for another pound...it is that good to my palate.

Sutliff Z92 Vanilla Custard Cream is one of my favorite vanilla blends.
Sutliff Creme Brulee is good too - but the Vanilla Custard has a stronger vanilla and cream flavors. The Creme Brulee claims to have Caramel, Honey, Vanilla flavors.

Isn’t this why we choose to pipe smoke? For me, there’s nothing better then the search knowing that something special may be a bowl away. It’s the reason why I love a pipe. And yes, you get some favourites along the way. The second order effect, is the calming nature and pure enjoyment of pipe smoking in the first place. Hence the circle continues.
