I sit at my desk in the office, which overlooks the woods around the house, and start to work on something. Light the first bowl of the day. Soon I am not working, but just puffing away contentedly and looking out the window at the woods. Getting nothing done. But happily, meditatively ‘occupied’ just the same. I think it’s one of the things about pipes that I returned to them to find.

When I sit down and light up a pipe I never know where my thoughts will go..

Oh I understand completely. I am not working today, and have time to sit in the chair out in the yard and smoke my pipe. I was recalling when I was a younger man. And like a lot of younger men. I remembered when it would be nice to see a lady with no clothes. Now I wish I could just see a lady without a mask!

I'm just the opposite, I've got a pipe lit no matter what I'm doing. Most of the time at work I've got one going.

I highly recommend retirement. While reality is highly overrated, one cannot say enough good things about retirement.

I highly recommend retirement. While reality is highly overrated, one cannot say enough good things about retirement. I plan on finding out in 58 days!

I am looking forward to retirement, but even with all the hassles of travel, it is nice to smoke a pipe in Santa Fe, Lake Havasu, Sierra Vista, Patagonia, On the beach at Coronado, or even a town like Hobbs NM.
The setting sun after a nice dinner has afforded me some nice conversations with some interesting people.
I will miss the paychecks when I retire, but for now all is good!

I've still a good while to go, but if the wife would allow (which she wouldn't), I often wonder what it would be like to smoke a pipe while working in my study. It might help concrete some of my sermon ideas or thoughts. If that's the case, I wonder could I claim tax relief on my tobacco....hmmm

Personally I found retirement to be the best job ever! Come on... you get paid to stay home! In my case I’m on the golf course enjoying the fresh air, getting some exercise with a pipe in my hand. Good walk spoiled? Are you kidding... I’ve got a pipe in my mouth! Whether we’re retired or not, one thing we all can agree on is pleasure and satisfaction when on reaches into his/her pocket, pulls out a match or soft flame lighter and light that intoxicating tobacco.
