As a retired military officer (30 years) I want to take this time to thank those of you who have worn the uniform and served. Whether you’re former military, police, firefighter, first responder... please take the time tomorrow to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. For those of you who haven’t served, please take the time to THANK a Veteran tomorrow and every day. Lest We Forget........

My GF and I were food shopping on Veteran's Day and ran into an old man wearing a well worn Garrison Cap with 1st Lieutenant Bar. I stuck out my hand to shake his. He just broke down and out came his story. Chosin Reservoir, Korea. RCT 31, USA. We must have stood there 45 minutes going over the details. He had no one to talk to so it was us. I was glad to participate.

If he had been at the Chosin Reservoir, Korea, he had a horror story to tell.

adding my thanx to all. I tried to enlist 3 times back in '61. Was not found mentally competent, however did manage to do 2yrs in Germany as K-9 trainer. Classified as civilian but pay was green gov't checks. Guess did contribute a little something "for the cause"

Every year I am at the cenetaf for rememberence day. When they play taps (I think is what play?). Point being it's very hard to keep a dry eye. I have had members of the family in the army.
Thank you to all!!

I’ve lost enough brothers in Afghanistan but that’s another story. Thank you for sharing.

I was never in the military, only a LEO in bush Alaska for a time. I do have 2 sons in the military, one is a combat Marine and the other a fire fighter in the Air Force. I think the highest emotional price for all three has actually been paid by my dear wife. With a husband and 2 sons out on the line, I cant even imagine the anguish she has gone through over the years.

We forget the families who supported us while on deployment. They are The Strength behind the Uniform. God knows I couldn’t function on deployment knowing my wife wasn’t being supported at home. Thank you to our Padres, military support staff etc for checking in with my wife every week while I was gone. Also, THANK YOU for supporting your boys. May they never be in harms way. And no... they’re not losers or suckers for serving.

I have never served other than being a military brat, I rode that mule long and hard.
My family has served in every war since the revolutionary war forward.
My dad was at the Chosin reservoir, and several tours of Vietnam, brother survived the marine corps barrack bombing in Lebanon.
My son was in Afghanistan, and had to live with the stupid ROE’s of Bush and Obama where he lost buddies as a result.
So I am intimately aware of the sacrifices and the price paid by those that have served.
Thank you all.

In Flanders field the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders field
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

My dad was too young for WW1 and too old for WWII. My uncles fought in Germany and Italy, and one uncle was the Chief Engineer on the Enterprise CV-6. The uncle I was closest to was in the Merchant Marine and got a military funeral and a couple of combat medals. I don't know what happened to the medals but I have his flag on the wall in the case. One grandfather didn't serve because of health, the other commanded a supply ship. Before that my ancestors fought in every war back to the Battle of Hastings to the War of Northern Agression. We won all but the last one. 🤠
Edit: All of the men who were scout leaders who actually raised me were veterans. Many fought in Italy and my Scoutmaster was a tank commander at the Battle of the Bulge. My cousin was on Corregidor and died in a mental institution. We owe these guys so much that we can only repay by continuing to support our country over ourselves.
