My dad was too young for WW1 and too old for WWII. My uncles fought in Germany and Italy, and one uncle was the Chief Engineer on the Enterprise CV-6. The uncle I was closest to was in the Merchant Marine and got a military funeral and a couple of combat medals. I don't know what happened to the medals but I have his flag on the wall in the case. One grandfather didn't serve because of health, the other commanded a supply ship. Before that my ancestors fought in every war back to the Battle of Hastings to the War of Northern Agression. We won all but the last one. 🤠 Edit: All of the men who were scout leaders who actually raised me were veterans. Many fought in Italy and my Scoutmaster was a tank commander at the Battle of the Bulge. My cousin was on Corregidor and died in a mental institution. We owe these guys so much that we can only repay by continuing to support our country over ourselves. Lest We Forget.

My Dads brother in the army fought from Africa to Germany, In Germany he was in a foxhole with 2 dead Germans with water up to his waist, couldn't get out sniper in a bell tower, 2 days and night, Patton came in and blew up the tower. My Dad joined the Navy, after boot camp he was discharged and Navy had found out he was a first class welder went to New Mexico, never to his dieing day did he talk about what he did. I joined the Navy , after boot camp I was assigned to a ship, one day 2 Captains came and said, you know how to run a boat, you talk French, we got a deal for you. When you're young you believe any 💩Proud of my family even though my fathers brother was half a bubble off. I'm the only one he told about the foxhole. I love my Country, Flag, even though it's hard to see the direction we are heading. God bless America!

I got into a conversation with a gentleman about my age that was dressed very dapper in his Army veteran hat and shirt. I spoke with him and thanked him for his service. He said that he was in college and his draft notice came in the same envelope as his grades! He served and got out and became a CPA. Tried to retire here and his friend put him to work. We talked for about 45 minutes. I like it here.

This thread reminds me of a comment from Major Winters (Band of Brothers)...
His grandson asked him "Grandpa are you a Hero? He responded... "No, but I had the honor of serving with some" "
I feel the same way.
