My grandpop got me some pipes earlier this year he found at a flea market and they have something I've never seen before. They are all clearly pretty worn,but three of them have a metal bit that looks kind of like a whistle at the end of the stem and the stem and pipe are lined with metal where they meet and the mouthpiece actually screws into the pipe. Is this common and I've just never seen it before or is something that isn't really done anymore?

It's not common, but it's not unheard of either. What are the markings on the pipes?

If you don't know what a stinger is, I'd say it sounds like one of those.
If you already know what a stinger is then it won't be that.

If you don't know what a stinger is, I'd say it sounds like one of those. If you already know what a stinger is then it won't be that. You are correct I did not know what a stinger was and that is what it is.
