Has anyone tried Wessex Gold Block? If so what is your opinion of it?
Also what about Sutliff Virginia Slice? And what is your opinion of this one.
Thanks John R

Yo Jo
I have both cellared. The 507c is the Best Buy in the realm of light-medium straight VA flakes. If you like Iwan Ries Virginia Flake and Boswell Virginia Slices, you will like 507c. It's a little heavier than Dunhill Flake and in between Capstan Yellow and Blue.
The Gold Block is a plug in the Euro style, with the expected attributes. It's about the same range in flavor.
Both are good fresh and get only better with age.

All the Wessex brands I've tried have been top notch, my favorite is Brigade Campaign Dark Flake, I have tried the Gold Brick and enjoyed it. The Gold Virginia Flake is also good.

After thinking about the Wessex I opened a 4 yr old tin of Campaign Bridgade, with my old Meer on porch on a beautiful day.

Les, would this Sutliff Virginia Slice make a good option for Dunhill Flake? I am looking a head. Never tried the tobaccos you mentioned.

I have a tin of Wessex Brigade Classic Virginia kicking around with just under 5 yrs of age on it. Let me know if you want to try some and I will pop it open and send you an ounce.

Both are quite good...I prefer the Wessex and have aged several blocks for more than 5 years...I finished smoking one about 3 months ago...very nice with a richer flavor and a bit more depth than fresh...

Yo Jo
507c and Dunhill Flake are in similar flavor ranges, though the later is lighter, brighter and more citrusy. It tends to burn a little faster. Some folks might consider them close enough to sub for each other.
