It was 30 years ago today John Lennon was killed outside of his apartment. What a great influence he has been. An ironic figure who believed in the brotherhood of man. Thank you John. R.I.P.

I remember when the Beatles broke up, and being really happy that finally McCartney had dumped that Lennon tool, so that now he'd really sound good, and being surprised and dismayed when McCartney without Lennon sucked!
Well, Live and Let Die was awesome, but what else? Jet? Decent, but not great.
Hard to believe they were only together eight years. Still hold all the number one records for songs, albums, covers etc, and my favorite band of all time.

To me he was the only one of the group with real talent.

To me he was the only one of the group with real talent. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in disagreement with you. McCartney, Harrison, and Starr were all inducted into the Rock Hall independent of their work with The Beatles.

John Lennon was genius, Paul too, and so was George.
Ringo was one lucky dude.

As a kid growin up in the 60's and 70's, I really never cared for the Beatles. Their music just didn't resonate with me. I was more into Skynyrd, Foghat, Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, and others.
It wasn't until I was a grown up that I started appreciating their music.
I too remember this day very well. It was my Sr year of H.S. I was working at a Carquest Autoparts shop, the owner was a big Beatles fan and was devastated.
Time sure flies. Incredible really, when you think about how many lives he touched, not only with the Beatles but afterwards as well.
Enough of my musings, got work to do.
Cheers

Townes Van Zandt met his last wife, Jeneane, at the Zilker Christmas Tree during a memorial for John Lennon. I met a girl there, too; we spent 3 years together. Bittersweet memories. Thanks John.

Was never much impressed by Lennon. No doubt he was enormously talented, while at the same time being a self-absorbed prat.

Was never much impressed by Lennon. No doubt he was enormously talented, while at the same time being a self-absorbed prat. That would be all of them. Lennon was just better at getting attention for his non-Beatle activities. To me Paul McCartney personified self-absorbed. Still, I'd rather listen to his meaningless post-Beatles pop than Lennon's meaningful stuff that had poorer melodies. All of this is just the opinion of a lifelong Beatles fan who loved them for what they were....and the Stones a little bit more.

Has anyone heard about the conspiracy that McCartney was replaced by the"origional" No, but I'm well aware of how the Beatles' original saxophone player, Clarence, was kicked out of the band.

Regardless of who was the talented one - Collectively, The Beatles were a big deal.
