I just saw that news myself. Didn't realise he was a comedian too.

One of my moms favorite country singers. We even had a chance to meet him and his wife @ Six Flags in TX back in the early 70's.
Great guy and very genuine.
Prayers for the family

I’ve slept under a table in a roadside park, .... I just love this man. Joyce Taylor, the most “white-bread” lady ever, always played on her turntable some Charlie Pride, Freddy Fender, or Johnny Rodriguez. Thank God I grew up in Austin. Thank you Charlie Pride.

My wife was and still remains, a big fan. As much as I'm no fan of Country music in general, I don't mind his music or Johnny Cash's either.

I thought for sure he wouldn't survive the brain cancer a few years back. I will miss his rare talent.

He managed fame ,without all the foolishness that can come with it. A real gentleman.

Quite a trailblazer on the country music scene, I can imagine in the beginning he faced a lot of adversity. I never heard him complain about anything of the sort, real class.

Incredible voice and class act all around. He appears many times in Ken Burns' Country Music - highly recommended...

Quite a trailblazer on the country music scene, I can imagine in the beginning he faced a lot of adversity. I never heard him complain about anything of the sort, real class. Back in the day when he started....I can't even imagine the unspeakable sadness, and the heart-breaking prejudices he had to endure from both the White and Black communities. I wonder if those miserable days ever truly ended. "Trailblazing"...is never easy, and it can be a lonely endeavor. I can only pray the he finally finds the peace that this bitter Life denied him.

Ill never forget my Cajun Fathers face when I told him Charlie Pride was black, he had only heard him on the radio, his look was of complete disbelief . Gave me a good laugh. I loved his music, seemed like a hell of a person. RIP!

When I saw him at the Conroe Ballroom in 1970,the 100% white crowd was loving him. Some of the women were throwing their panties on the stage. A pretty low class crowd.
