It bothers me that the "Bing's Favorite" pipes have a bent stem. That is all.

Why the anti-bent feelings? Curious about that. Any reason beyond just preference? I actually prefer a bent stem. To each his own I guess.

To each his own I guess. the old Merchant Services pipes that Bing smoked were straight. That's where the "Bing" shape came from. Calling a pipe a "Bing's Favorite", with a bent stem just isn't right. I also think it looks kinda wonky having, basically, a completely straight pipe with a bent stem on it. It looks droopy. It just bothers me. I like bent stems too, I just don't think it fits on something called a "Bing".

I unbent mine, bought a Merchant Service, got rid of the Merchant Service and rebent the Bings Favorite. All happy now and I don't care that it doesn't look like what Bing smoked. It smokes great just as Savinelli designed it.

I agree, it borders on sacrilege to be a Bing Bender.
Thumbkins and the stretch rack for offenders.

Not only the bent part of it. I have actually seen members from a forum commission a pipe manufacturer to make then Bing pipes. There were... no bands on the pipes. Can't call them Bing, can they. And they manufacture pipes. They obviously knew better. Where is this world going to, I wonder?

It's the most accurate copy of the pipe that Bing smoked. It was a great pipe, but it just didn't suit me so I passed it on to another smoker that would appreciate it.

There has been so much discussion about the pipes that Bing smoked. It's a known fact that he smoked Merchant Services pipes for many years, and was known to buy them by the case to give as gifts. That being said, he also had pipes made for him by local artisans, among them Ed Koplin, who eventually started the Tinder Box chain.
If you look at most of the long, pencil shanked pipes that Bing is seen smoking later in life, they appear to be much longer than the Merchant Services variety. Granted, I'm only guessing based on face size in comparison to the pipes, but they don't fit what the "standard" Merchant Services dimensions were to my eye.
There is no official "standard" for a Bing pipe, as there have been many that have claimed they created it.

And, of course, the metal band. I do like the longer pencil shanks he smoked. I still don't like the bent stems non the Bing's Favorite. Haha.
