I was looking through a box of jars of tobacco that I haven't gone through in a few years. I found a jar of Ennerdale flake. I thought, "hey, Ennerdale, I like that." So, I smoked some, and all the flavoring was gone. It was just a boring Virginia. Do tobaccos of this type just naturally deteriorate with age, or did I do something wrong?

The flavorings sugget that it is an aromatic. www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/564/gawith-hoggarth-co-ennerdale-flakeAromatics for the most part do not benefit with age, the flavorings fade and it is anyones guess as to how the passage of time affects the flavorings. Based on my time in the hobby and reading what others have written, aromatics do not age gracefully like regular virginia's and Burley's.

I don't believe it's an aromatic in a traditional sense ie.. a lot of cavendish. Also suspect it's much of the same Virginia's that go into their non-scentered blends. But vacuum sealing would probably be the way to go to preserve the toppings, particularly if one finds Virginia's boring.

I opened a 4 YO tin last year. The topping had receded but was still there. It was great to smoke.

My C&D Jolly Old St Nick lost it's flavoring after 3 weeks. Disappointing, but that's aro's. In contrast, Lakelands don't seem to lose their unique aromas.

Yes they do... into your pipe for all of eternity.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but if you like Lakelands and you like Gin, try Hendrick's Midsummer Solstice...it really is a brother from another mother.
