Got a box in the mail from a friend whom has since disappeared from the Patch...haven't heard from Brother Scrooge in many a moon. Just want him to know how much I appreciate his generosity and wish he would come back to his "family". Merry Christmas to you, Brother Scrooge...we really been missing you!

A Silver Mounted Army is a great everyday pipe. Not an Army mount, but a silver Pete band...a real beauty and perfect for high octane blends. 'Bout a Grp. 1 in size. This is my first Pete in all the years that I have been smoking.....hope to get another as I really like the way that Petes smoke.

Scrooge was a major player around here back when I joined. If he returned this holiday season, it would be a real homecoming. It's nice to see he's thinking of you this year; that really is a fine gift. Congrats to you both, friendship is the best gift of all.

I miss James ... glad to hear he's still being a "Scrooge". Lets hope he visits the ghost of Christmas past, and realizes that the ghost of Christmas present beckons him to come back to us. I never saw a poster so mis-named...benefactor is probably a better handle.

I miss Scrooge. One of the most generous people I've ever had the pleasure to know on the patch.

Just realized that this is a cutty shape.. Like a Dublin, the lower walls (lower cheeks) of this kind of bowl can get extremely hot if not drilled with an appropriately tapered bit. Since there's less material than a billiard or pot style shape, a straight parabolic bit, or even one with not enough taper on the sides, will cause thin walls near the bottom of the chamber. That's my guess for why it burned out. ETA: even more so if the chamber wasn't drilled straight.

Your analysis of the disaster that took place is spot on...thin wall at the bottom and a mix that was apparently smoking hot.
Regarding Brother Scrooge...I have emailed him and gotten an update...he is having surgery this coming month so I am asking for prayers for our brother on or about the 17th. Other than that he is doing well and perhaps I can talk him into coming back.

If anyone has James name and the city he lives in, I might be able to find out through pipe clubs and associations that he has had over the past, and see how he is doing.
He might have changed email addresses, and life might have just taken a different turn, he was a committed piper, so i am guessing that he didn't walk away from the hobby by choice.
Send me a PM if you possess his address or pipe club affiliations. Pretty sure he lives in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
