Had some SG Brown #4 in my Alpha Allegra. Got a bit of tongue bite but not enough to keep me from finishing the bowl.

I hear itās a lot of work prepping that blend before smoking. As I havenāt tried this blend hope itās worth the effort? I just shave it into shag, and light it up. It requires relights, but that's just fine with me. It's STRONG, flavor wise. I enjoy it. Yes, I hear it has a very high nic hit. Is it comparable to the Nightcap nicotine wise? Also, as Iām not familiar with rope cut, I understand it can be a bugger to cut enough shavings for the pipe. Lastly, is there another blend thatās similar to the Black XX? Unfortunately my tobacconist doesnāt carry this blend. Thanks.....

It's no trouble for me and my pocket knife to shave enough for a bowl. Takes about 30 seconds. The only thing similar is Gawith & Hoggarth Black Irish X Twist - which, when last I smoked it, I found stronger tasting, and somewhat unpleasant. That was several years ago now, and my tastes may have changed.

Before dinner I had a bowl of C & D Opening Night in a Hampshire Pot that I picked up in a junk shop. Then, added a pinch of Haunted Bookshop to the leftover Match Victorian/Opening Night and am smoking it in a MM Missouri Pride for my after-dinner smoke.

Finished shoveling a couple inches of wet/icy heavy snow and am enjoying a bowl of Haunted Bookshop in a MM Missouri Pride cob. Sounding like a broken record. My gosh! That HB sounds like a good all-day blend. I'm eager for mine to come in. The Princess is moonlighting again tonight, so I'm batch'ing it with the West's Best Plateau of Leng that arrived in today's mail and sipping on a G&T. It's a nice, quiet night Since joining the Patch and posting my smokes, I've noticed that I've become rather predictable. While I'm working during the day, I tend to alternate between the HB and Match Victorian. I don't want to fuss with flakes (I never mastered the fold and stuff technique) and ended up gravitating to those two blends. I have to mix things up a little more. Currently, finishing the remains of the day and will switch things up a bit.

I really enjoy blends like HB, Pegasus, Double Down and Match Victorian during the day, while I'm working. I can focus on work and just load a pipe and go. In the evening, when things slow down, I can prep some flake, pick out the appropriate pipe and really enjoy the tobacco. Currently smoking HH Old Dark Fired in a Peterson Killarney Red Canadian. This was a Christmas present from my son. Turns out to be a good flake pipe. Hockey on the tube, Guinness draught in a pint glass. Hope you're all having a great evening. Stay warm, dry and safe.
