Hello, all. I came in from smoking my first bowl in about 15 years last night, and immediately started searching for pipe smoking forums because after that bowl I knew I was going to continue.
I smoked a pipe for about 10 years. Built up a nice little collection. Had a few tins of 1998 (I think) Christmas Cheer that had been aging for several years, and some Dunbar, which was my daily smoke. All of it went up in a fire, ironically enough. It wasn't even my fire. It was the guy next door's fire. Anyway, I was so disgusted and heartsick (my perfect-for-me 1954 Dunhill! my beloved little Stanwell pot! the Amadeus that got me started! all gone!), I just kind of walked away.
I don't know why, but for whatever reason I decided to pick it up again. I ordered a couple of pipes and a small variety of tobaccos (Dunbar is gone, too!), both non-aromatic and aromatic, just to see what I liked if anything, and last night I sat down for my first bowl in 15 years. That was all it took. Yup. I'm back.
Love that avatar! That part of that scene always cracks me up. Monsieur LaPaditte gets his small clay pipe. The Nazi big shot pulls a calabash out of his pocket. The tiny hint of a smile that plays across LaPaditte's face.
