Erik Stokkebye released a small batch coin cut, Peaty Kentucky. Limited edition, $30 for 50g. Yikes. I like Kentucky, but not that much.

Can you imagine the price in Canada?
$900 for W. O. Larsen 2015 Limited Release makes PS look like chump change.
Scroll to 12 minutes to avoid more nonsense than necessary.

As someone living in Canada I tell you prices on tobacco here is insane. A pouch of tobacco $35 is the best price I can find. A tin of tobacco is anywhere $37 - $50+.
When I see the prices in the u.s.a. I want to move!

It does come in the snazzy little humidor box ... for what that's worth.

I have never understood tin pricing. Online vendors feel the need to discount and then complain that they aren't making money. When Virginias sells out within minutes, demand is high and prices are too low. Seems like 30$ is over what people are willing to spend. Raising prices somewhat would actually stabilize the market (reduce hoarding), make the BAM some money and make supply more consistent.

I might put one of the blocks from the FMC in some Laphroaig and put it in a jar with some ODF. Couldn't hurt.

When Virginias sells out within minutes, demand is high and prices are too low. Seems like 30$ is over what people are willing to spend. Raising prices somewhat would actually stabilize the market (reduce hoarding), make the BAM some money and make supply more consistent. I've thought about this too and have come to a similar conclusion. I don't know if USD 30 IS a better price point but I given how few quality blenders are out there you'd think that someone like Gawith or Germains and a few others could easily go to USD 15-20 per 50g and still sell out. It might even help increase production if the margin were to improve and they could offer a premium for growers to take up the more elaborate techniques necessary to ensure high quality. It might even help convince blenders to refocus selling towards the US market and away from using limited supplies to others. I can't imagine the wholesale prices paid by the major websites distributors is particularly appealing when their major selling point is that they can sell large quantities quickly. I just find it interesting how little price spread there is between the low end and high end of the pipe tobacco market with very few exceptions. I remember there was a W.O. Larsen blend that was priced at USD 1000 a few years back but that must have been mostly for show.

I’m curious. Does anyone know? This little humidor box it comes in. I know they’ve done this before. Is the stuff inside sealed? Or will someone find out the hard way in 5 years. They spent $30 for a box of sawdust?

They spent $30 for a box of sawdust? If it's anything like the one I have from a couple years ago, you'll want to remove and jar the tobacco for long term storage. It actually is a nice little box and I still use it occasionally.

Maybe they smoke it in a Scotch malting house. I really have no idea.
