My wife and I have been married well over 50 years and she still wants to discuss how I do things..I told her that I do things in my normal way..She said I do things in my usual way..That doesn't mean they're normal..I still love her.

A matter of values, eh?

Just tell her that they're NORMAL for You!
I'll never understand why women have to pick us apart and try and change us all the time. Don't they understand that , "You bought it, your stuck with it". they knew what they were getting before the ceremony.

NORMAL and AVERAGE are two states-of-being that are both unobtainable and ill-advised.

The "Nod and Smile" method works nicely.

some humor so far, appreciate same. Two def here. Normal words in more or less plain English pretty decent (considering I am learning disabled from birth to a 41yr old mother). Then there are most of techie-talk. Much of it is a combo of Vulcan, Klingon & plain 'ol gibberish, but somehow survive a decent % of it.

My wife and I both have advanced degrees and have been married for 27 years. I'm often amazed at how well we miscommunicate. I've also discovered that she does NOT appreciate my attempts to help her by saying things like, "Sweetheart, we use 'who' for people and 'that' for things," or correct her grammar, sentence structure, and word choices while she is speaking.

Normal is overrated anyway.
And where's the normal standard for comparison?

I've been married so long that we finish each other's sandwiches.

I usually just keep my mouth shut (but not always) and continue as I please. Seems to work out best.

The wife and I went to a marriage conference some years back hosted by a Christian husband and wife. They zeroed in on what women say, how men hear it and reverse. It was eye opening to say the least, a lot of heads were swivel snapping as spouses looked at each other.
Even with the enlightenment, we both continue to operate as we are wired though.

I was born In Carolina.Spent 40 years in the big city (Detroit) When I retired I moved back to Carolina..When I lived in the city folks told me that I had country ways.Back in Carolina folks say that I have city ways.I guess I'm just mixed up and don't really fit either place..I guess I just do things my way..I just try my best to respect everyone that I can,and stay away from those that I can't.

I nod and say 'Yes dear'. Sometimes she quizzes me to see if I was actually listening.
