I say assembly because I did not forge the blade. This was made from a blank blade, a piece of pin stock, and two wenge scales. I attached and shaped the handle, and a little of the tang, trying to lessen the finger grooves. As a bonus, I wound up with nice balance. I also made the sheath. Before you guys laugh too hard, it was my first one. I used a piece of 8x12 leather, some cord, a drill press, and many hours of stitching. Overall, I'm happy with both the knife and the sheath, all things considered.

Nothing at all to laugh at. Nice piece of work. What’s the steel?

That's a darned respectable first effort. Absolutely no cause here for laughter.

Nothing at all to laugh at. Nice piece of work. What’s the steel? The supplier tells me the damascus was forged from 1095 and 15N20. Edited the number.

I know that 1095 is the steel used in about 95% of military knives. Not so sure about 15N20. I think it might be a sawmill steel, in which case you have a very tough knife there. Should serve you well. Congrats!

Thank you gentlemen, I'm going to keep working at this, before long I'll be forging my own blades, and probably some snuff spoons and tampers.

Part of the fascination with knives is the vast array of blade shapes and their applications. Yours strikes me as more of a fighting-knife style. Might be fun to try a good, practical hunting/outdoorsman’s knife. Maybe a drop point with a nice belly, the kind a deer-hunter would use. The Loveless style is a good start. That general style is my favorite for field dressing a deer and lots of other chores as well. They also make for pretty good all-purpose blade, even in the kitchen. You are into an exciting adventure. Best of luck!

I'm very impressed, and you should be very pleased with this effort. I expect we'll see even nicer blades from your hands in the future.
