I am cobfused by the peoples love for cobs. I have three Old Dominions. That's your problem. Get some Missouri Meerschaums. Old Dominion cobs are very inferior to the all mighty Missouri Meerschaum. Get a Mark Twain, a Legend/Washington shape or just any of them that are more your favorite size. After you put 50 or more smokes through it in a week or two you'll start to notice how it just continues to smoke better and better from each bowl forward. Once you've smoked hundreds of bowls in one it smokes better than an average meerschaum pipe. It has to be smoked to be believed. Also, you can smoke 15 bowls a day out of the same cob and that alone makes the pipes valuable for a smoker. No worrying about smoking it too wet or burning it out or anything.

In defense of Old Dominion they smoke a lot better for me than Missouri Meerschaums. This year they have a new larger size in case you have not looked lately . The Old Dominions impart a much sweeter taste because they use heirloom corn. For me I would rather draw through the bamboo stem that the gosh awful stem that come stock on the MM. Not trying to come off as cob snob, just not my cup of tea. Oh and the cornmeal is the best. www.olddominionpipe.com/ www.pungocreekmills.net/default.html

To be fair, I have not purchased and personally smoked an Old Dominion but have my information from friends who are long term cob smokers on a daily basis. Their consensus is that they cost much more, have smaller bowls, have inferior cob structure and stems. After they break in I am sure they smoke alright but the bowl diameters were too small for me to justify spending $12 on a cob last I looked at them. Missouri Meerschaum has been making these pipes for over 120 years and they know what they're doing.
But based on you not getting the cob thing, I'd say many people thought this until they smoked a cob for a few hundred bowls. I know personally if I have to grab a pipe and pack it and get a smoke going, I'll consistently grab one of my broken in cobs over any of my meerschaums. They do hands down smoke better in more ways than one.

You are twisting my words. It is not a life threatening experience. But you also have a free will to misinterpret enlightenment and what others say.

Have yet to try an OD, but I can definitely say that MMs are going to give serious bang for your buck. Fantastic draw, can be smoked all day, and will not drain the wallet.

A Mark Twain with just over 1,200 smokes through it when I took this photo. From Pipesmokersforum a gentleman over there named Charlie was running a long-term experiment to prove whether or not you could burn out a cob. Well, today the cob has just about 2,000 smokes through it and still looks much like the photo. We've been sending it all around the country for any member to smoke the pipe for 2 weeks and then pass it on to the next member on the list. Also completely proves you don't need to let it dry or take any special care of a cob. This Mark Twain was smoked for many months at 10+ bowls a day. I smoked almost 8 bowls average through this cob for 2 straight weeks and did not smoke any other pipe. It literally smoked like a dream. Any blend, we've all smoked absolutely anything through it .Rum Twist, Ennerdale, Grasmere, Carter Hall, Haunted Bookshop, latakia. Whatever. Smokes like the best pipe you've ever put in your mouth over 1,000 smokes later. What an insanely cool idea. Also, that isn't the original stem is it? I love cobs, but If I am honest the plastic stems just don't quite do it. I'm a bit of a fop that way, I guess. But I am assuming each smoker uses their own stem? If so, is there a place a guy can buy just stems?

That's a Log Cabin Works Forever stem made of Acrylic. It travels with the pipe and you just wash it off or you can use your own stem. LogCabinWorks sells acrylic stems for about $22-24.
Sorry @psycholime not meaning to take what you said out of context. Smoke what you like, of course.

Definitely going to pick a few up. May get some stains to play around with too- Safe, cheap way to scratch my pipe-making itch.
