One thing a person can state, without any political bias, is they do have a moving national anthem...
(Or is that California possibly Oregon..maybe??)

Not surprised by that state. Saddened, but not surprised.

I'm going to drop by a local cigar/vape/glass shop tomorrow to see whats going on. The little cigar store lounges were closed early in the pandemic and most shops were only doing curbside pickup. This particular place bought out a watch/clock repairman next door and expanded. Doubled the size of their walk-in(almost as impressive as their collection of glass. LOL) and were putting in the finishing touches to the new smoking lounge. I understand the desire to keep people safe and all, but what frustrates me is the inconsistent application of policy. Of course, this could just be camouflage for the real motive here. BTW - this shop, and almost all others here, have little of interest to the (tobacco) pipe smoker.

“ BTW - this shop, and almost all others here, have little of interest to the (tobacco) pipe smoker.”
Because there is little to no profit from carrying pipe related products when cigar smokers pay the rent.
There is some blame to go on the proprietor for not carrying pipe tobacco but the pipe community needs to give the store a reason to carry pipe related products.

It's all about the tax dollars for these states. I really don't like being told what is good for me and what I should do. Soon, there is the USPS vape ban, with FedEx and ups to follow. That's how I quit smoking cigarettes, and I feel much better. I enjoy my occasional pipe or cigar. I don't have any tobacco shops near me, what do you do if they ban tobacco and cigar shipping? Then everyone will be up sh*t creek without a paddle. They say it's all to save the children. All I know, when I was a kid, if I wanted to smoke, I smoked, whether or not I got into trouble by doing it. I'm sorry, but this stuff really makes me angry.

You wanna stop kids from smoking, increase the fines for anyone caught selling to or supplying minors. You can't just stop everyone from smoking. On that note, and hopefully this isn't too, too, political, but has anyone ever seen a gun that can pull it's own trigger?

I have known several people who are from the Michigan countryside and they love it. Too bad about the bad laws but that's not a good representation of the state.

Before this came down, it was even illegal to smoke a pipe in a cigar lounge that allowed cigar smoking. Unless the proprietor wanted to up the ante and pay prohibitive prices to be granted the right.

This is an entrepreneurial business opportunity for anyone who want s to invent a smoking mask. Little hatch in the front with seal. Mask on, cigar in, all is good and compliance with the law. Where there is a law, there is always a loophole.

I ignored Wisconsin’s mask mandate and smoked cigars in my local pipe shop all summer/fall after the shut down ended. If there were others in the lounge we naturally social distanced. We did have one regular who caught it and was hospitalized but he pulled through. I just wore my mask into the shop and then took it off when I was inside. I think this will die down as everyone gets vaccinated.

I left Detroit in 1994..Back then pipe smoking was pretty popular there..There were several really good smoke shops..It's probably not so now.. I remember a smoke shop..You could take a pipe in and they would make you a spiral stem for it..Made the pipe look really nice..Pipe smokers used to be respected as part of society..It seems though that as our numbers lessen so does that level of respect.

Larry, You're right, there were some really good smoke shops in the Detroit area. Bounced between 6-8 shops within a half hour of home, I'm sure there were a good amount that I never saw. Things have certainly changed. Only one real pipe shop left that I know of (and he's doing only curbside business right now). What was the name of the shop that made the spiral stems?

I'm trying to remember the name of that shop but it's been so long I can't recall it now.

Pete, being “our guy” in Metro Detroit, have you personally noticed any changes in your area? I haven't been to a cigar shop in a few weeks, I never did make it to the place I mentioned over the weekend. The last time I was there, there were a couple guys smoking in the partly finished lounge. During the first lockdown, all these places closed or only offered curbside service for a while. This relaxed during the summer, and things appeared to be business-as-usual. The second, partial, lockdown limited restaurants to outdoor dining in igloo-type structures. Many restaurants just closed for some time. We're back up to 50% capacity in restaurants now. The problem with many smoking lounges is probably their smallish size and the difficulty to socially distance. If you're in a store here, it is absolutely mandatory to wear a mask. Since I'm no longer a regular cigar smoker (one every week or two), I don't go to the shops all that often. I only stop in once a month to pick up a few sticks to smoke at home. Let's see what happens in the next couple months as more people are vaccinated. And no, it doesn't suck to live in Michigan. I wish I had a couple real tobacconists to visit, though.

I know what you meant, and agree with you. The guv has taken a lot of heat in the last year for policies and protocols that appear inconsistent and arbitrary sometimes. I hope that the smoking "pause" is really a COVID protocol, and not something related to the anti-tobacco movement. Like I said, we'll see in the next couple months. I really gotta go to this cigar shop and ask around. In other news, I may be heading up to Paul's Pipe Shop in Flint on Saturday. I've checked their website, and may pick up a pipe or two. I'll have to try some of the house tobacco, but it looks to be either English or aromatic.

When I lived in the Detroit area there were quite a few good smoke shops and buying a gun wasn't hard at all..That was 25 years ago though.

I've often thought, if I had time, that I would enjoy owning and running a shop called ATF. Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms...all my favorite things under one little ol' roof.
