Here is my favorite memory from all the pipe shows that I have been to.
It was a cold, rainy evening. I left the tent, and went in search of food. There was a wide hallway, but it was packed with the kids on their prom. Picture all the girls, having their Cinderella moment, with their boy friends, in tuxes. It was a beautiful situation, but I needed to get through the crowd. After considering the issue, 2 seconds, I announced:
"ATTENTION EVERYONE, I POSITIVELY REEK OF PIPE TOBACCO, AND I NEED TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS CROWD. SO, UNLESS YOU WANT TO SMELL LIKE ME, YOU NEED TO MAKE A PATH!."
I felt like Moses, parting the Red Sea.

I've never yet attended a pipe show...can't wait to get to my first ever show, whenever that is...

twas CORPS '89 show. Word got out to head for the slo smoke "semi-room". A fella was standing there, at about the 67min mark, everybody else "out" xcept for two. He was calmy standing, stem of Sav 2nd 3/4 bent in mouth, bowl on floor in flames. a few rushing over with pitchers of water to put the beast outa its' misery. Winner "out" 2mins later. That guy, if they had one, would charter member of the club's Hall of Infamy. If they have another CORPS show, and Linwood Hines still around, sure he was a witness & could verify.
Oh, "the guy" was yours truely
Ed Duncan, Batavia NY takes an "Ed" to pull that one off

My favorite memory revolves around hanging with my pipe club members and those that primarily live away from us. DaveinLax, Sablebrush, Jiminks, etc...With those in the industry, Don Warren, Greg Pease, Mike McNeil, Mark Ryan are all standouts and great conversationalists.
As great as the selection of pipes and raffles are, the conversation is what trips my trigger.
I admit to reeking profusely at the end of each day, as that is without a doubt the smokiest weekend of the year.

My favorite memory revolves around hanging with my pipe club members and those that primarily live away from us. Yeah! Most of my favorite memories are sitting around smoke filled hotel rooms with my buddies who understand and encourage my passion. One memory that stands out was when I was invited to display the collection in Chicago. Two of my close friends and mentors came up before the show opened and presented me with gifts "that really belong in your collection" a unique tamper that was gifted from the hand of Carlo Scotti to my buddy and a very old and rare Mi Reserve era shape 15 billiard with a vulcanite stem from the late 40's. Both were humbling and undeserved gifts of friendship. Here are some photo's from the weekend.

I had a lovely late evening with JimInks and Sablebrush at the West Coast Show a few years back. Both were quite gentlemanly in sharing some McClelland Christmas Cheer that they were smoking, and JimInks gave me a pipetool that's still in my pipe bag to this day. We had a great conversation about the elite comic book writers and artists of the 60's.

Sailor Jack is a legend. I wish I could have met the guy. A 20+year pipe test results in such nonsense.
