I contacted Steve O'Neil, director of the West Coast Pipe Show and asked in light of the pandemic, what the future holds for a pipe show? Hopefully we can have one, we will see.

adui ....it seems that you were right! Mike Gluker posted this, it seems that the West Coast Pipe Show will take place on November 6th and 7th 2021. The webs www.westcoastpipeshow.com/show-info/The offer code for the discounted rates is not valid, I am going to contact Steve to see if we can get the proper discount code.
For that matter, the dates for booking are still reflected from last year also.

I didn't realize that the Youtube video predated the original post in the thread....Steve got back to me, everything is in the holding pattern.

Steve McNeil has said that the show will take place only if Nevada completely opens up by SEPTEMBER 1st. They will need two full months to finalize preparations for the show. Mike's announcement was a little premature. Standing by . . .

On the last pipesmagazine podcast this last week, Brian Levine said that the show is on.
I checked the website the next day and saw that it was not updated.
I sent Brian Levine an email… crickets.
Today the link for the WCPS is broken.
I emailed Steve, waiting for a response.

The 2021 WCPS was canceled today. I’m very disappointed.

The 2021 WCPS was canceled today. I’m very disappointed. Well that sucks. Not surprising though, in the past the Palace station has been increasingly difficult for them to deal with, and the terms had been more onerous. I can only speculate that the hiatus by the covid only complicated things. I hope they can get a new venue next year.

From Spartacus, a member of The Arizona Pipe Club:
This came in a text this morning from Lee Avon Erck.
West Coast Pipeshow has been cancelled for 2021. Sad news
Attention!! Concerning the 2021, 13th Annual West Coast Pipe Show; This has been an extremely difficult decision for Marty and I both but we need to do what we think is best for everyone concerned. We are cancelling the show for this year. Flying across the country with a face mask on and worrying about who has been Vaxed and who hasn’t, is a real concern. We will not be part of the Vax police worrying about who has been Vaxed and if they have not been , they need to wear a mask. We also feel that there are too many unresolved issues for us to be confident that a show can be conducted without fear of changes in regulations and requests. Our show is about having a great time together and enjoying our great hobby. We do not want hard feelings at our show. I am getting dates for a show next year. I will put the dates on the web site as soon as I have them. The best to everyone, Steve and Marty

The west coast is dead. Still people walkin' around, but they're pretty much all dead living in fear and anger and thinkin' crazy stuff. Wouldn't be surprised to see lots of events leaving and migrating to the heartland.

Vegas, where the pipe show is held is all open, even in a good year though the organizers need several months to put the show together. With all the uncertainty about mandates being instituted, federally and locally the time ran out for the organizers.

I understand that the organizers didn’t want to risk loosing money on low table sales and attendance but it kinda pissed me off that they early on had announced a clear set of parameters and cut off dates for whether the show would happen and there was no mention of masking on a flight. I wouldn’t be surprised if masks will be still be required in November of 2022. Guys from all over the country will be masking up and flying into Vegas the very next week for The Big Smoke at The Mirage.

As a firm believer in states rights, I respect the decision made by the officials in Nevada. however, with the mask mandate in place, I would have no desire to attend a pipe show having to wear a mask and no ability to smoke a pipe, and I suspect that unsold tables and low attendance for a pipe show informed the organizers, being primarily Marty and Steve. They certainly do not have the deep pockets that the cigar industry has. Even with 50% attendance, the organizers of The Big Smoke can probably keep their head above water. Since the new mask mandate was instituted a week ago, I think they made the right call.

At least they have been "virtual" the last two years so we haven't had to put up with them coming through town.

I was looking at moving to Cody, WY and realized summers there are nuts with all the Yellowstone crowds. Nice ten day window to be on vacation for those that have that luxury.
