I put those soft rubber bits on my pipes. Makes things much more comfortable for me, and I like not having teeth marks in the stem. However, I've got a couple pipes that have small stems, and the bits keep coming off in my mouth.
Do those things come in sizes at all? Are there smaller one I could get? I don't think I've ever seen any.

They come in small and large at P&C. But some times they aren’t big or small enough.
A few years ago a thread covered this topic. Several mentioned that they use shrink tubing? I was always going to try that. Just never have.

If that doesn't work, a trip to the tubing section at the hardware store ought to turn up something that will do the job. Personally, I can't use them, they make me gag. I'm always looking for as little bit in my mouth as possible.

I've only noticed one size, but I'm happy to read above that there are other sizes. I tried them, but couldn't get used to them.

Good to know and thanks everyone for your posts. Like Urb, I’ve purchased a few bits myself for the same reason. Cheers......

I purchase mine by the bushel on eBay, yeah there Chinese made but, they are cheaper and you get a whole lot more and, they come in several sizes. If you have a vintage pipe with a very small bit you may not find one to fit it but, I have several sizes of bits and I've been able to fit them all with one. I believe if memory serves me correct that I have 9mm, 11mm and one other size I don't recall in softies I've purchased from eBay, all the same maker I believe also.

I used them for years as I am hard on stems. They help with the wear. Also, they seem to prevent slippage out of my open hanging mouth.

EDIT: Whoops. I completely only read Urb's first post and replied quickly. Hadn't realized it was a necrobump.

I still learned a few things from this thread. There are multiple sizes sold from the actual Softy company, and that I've never had the genuine USA made Softy bits. The ones I've used previously must be Chinese knockoffs I've purchased from my B&M and SmokingPipes. The real ones look a lot better and cooler. I chewed through the ones I've used in a few short months and eventually stopped using them altogether.

I only have two pipes that the average softee bits don't work on, and I got some cheap rubber tubing from home depot that I cut to fit and it works great.

I use them on all my pipes and have found the cheap ones I've bought on ebay are TOO soft. Almost squishy. They made me much less confident in the security of my clench. I always wind up with a hole (top and bottom) from my canines but try to remove/rotate a 1/4 turn or replace before I get a mark on my stems. Sometimes I fail. I like the JB Long ones. Seem more solid and less squishy.
