A couple of years before Dunhill pulled the plug on their Orlik production, I would sometimes get the Standard Mixture sent when I had ordered the SM Mellow, previously known as SM Mild. The EU regs forced name changes for certain descriptive words - this was all for the children, you understand. Hence Rattray's Orange Passion got renamed Exotic Passion. What I don't understand is how this "Standard Mixture" is different from SM Medium. Any insight?

I don't have an answer for your question, but I understand the need to change to a less attractive name so all of the 12 year old wannabe pipe smokers aren't interested.
And in related news, the National Car Dealers Association has announced that the top selling car for the third year in a row is the Nissan Rat Vomit.

They used to have the Mild, Medium and Full when they were manufactured in the UK. I have not smoked the Mild nor the Full but my educated guess would be the quantity of Latakia used in each. I did, however, smoke several tins of the Medium which still remains my favorite English mixture.

I think lestrout answered his own question without realizing it... Let's see.... Rattray's Orange Passion was renamed Exotic Passion.
Standard Mixture was renamed SM Medium.
Following the trend I believe SM is short for SadoMasochism. There you go problem solved.
