I am looking to expand my selection of good VA or other combos tobacco's. I have GLP Union Square and Escudo Navy Deluxe. I have had CD Briar Fox and loved it. I am going to get another tin of that for sure.
They all smoke for me best when smoked real slow and the bite stays at bay.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

I like all the ones you've listed, too. I smoked heavy Lat and burley stuff for a long time before I could slow down and really enjoy Va, VaPer, or a thing Virginia forward. I'd suggest some bulk that you could try a small amount and are readily available:
Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake, VaPer, has Cavendish. " " " Navy Flake, VaPer, light perique. Newminster Navy Flake, Va. Both brands have a Va ribbon cut, both #701. Sutliff Virginia Slices Peterson Flake & Orlik Golden Slices, both a little mild with light topping, tinned. Cornell & Diehl Yorktown, Va, sweet. " " " has a lot of good tins that would fit, but I'd have to check my tins to see. There are plenty of good Va blends out there from less available blenders.

That is a good start for my next order. I had been smoking mostly English and Balkan blends. Now I am branching out a bit both aro and VA.

Oh, dear. Now you're talking my language. In addition to Emily's list, I can recommend:
Rattray's Marlin Flake Solani 633 Stokkebye's Evening Flake Peretti London Flake Watch City Old Dominion Elizabethan Mixture
Those are all VA/Pers, some with a bit of other things thrown in. For pure Virginias and Virginia-forwards, I like:
Peter Heinrich Golden Sliced Savinelli Brunello Flake Mac Baren HH Pure Virginia any Rattray's Virginia blend Peretti Boston Slices Watch City Flake 558
Uhle's Blend 44 is a nice VA/Bur that's readily available in bulk.
I'd just pick a couple or three you can easily get and are inexpensive, and start exploring. You could do a lot worse, for example, than starting with some Sutliff Virginia Slices (available in bulk), OGS (not in bulk, but not expensive), and a sample of any of the Stokkebye blends we've mentioned.
I tend to be a pretty slow, steady puffer, so I can't really speak to which, if any, might cause tongue bite. None of them do for me.

It is a good thing my time and tobacco budget has improved. I now have a good list to work with. Thank you both for the responses. I started a file where I list all the blends I am smoking, and what I think of them. I am also listing if I would get it again. I am sure I will build some kind of app for my computer to allow me to search it as the list is growing fast.

I plan on rectifying that!

Looks like a good shopping list. I'd suggest Hal O' the Wynd, Mac Baren Navy Flake, HH Pure Virginia and GL Pease Fillmore.

GL Pease Cumberland and Six Pence, Peterson University Flake. At what point does a VaBur become a BurVa?

“One thing to keep in mind... anything with Virginia’s gets better with age, what might seem tolerable now can be a dream smoke later, the same can be said for Burley’s, some like Perique softened” ~Captain Obvious

Or for that matter, when does a straight VA become flavored? And there's VaPerKy, VaPerOr and VaBurOr. Questions for the ages...

Having enjoyed some of the various blends listed I have to say almost all of them were too sugary for more than a bowl maybe once a week? The acidic burn effect really hits me hard as a daily smoker. Petersons perfect plug, i had to quit smoking for two days after I had two bowls in a day and not even back to back.. in defense of heavy toppings and candy aromatics I admit the puff cadence and total combusted at high heat affect the acidic conversion of sugar. So while I have bad luck there are plenty of you out there who can enjoy those tobaccos. SPC plum puddiing can be slightly stingy to me and I limit it to one bowl any day. GLP gaslight is another that can sting me a bit. Both blends have minimal topping so as you can see I am a bit sensitive. Redburn has a bitterness as well as privateer but blockade runner and seadog are great. Think its the orientals.. So the point is, each type can vary widely due to final proccessing. I have mixed semois (a burley) in things with odd results. SPC potlatch..makes a big change. Billy budd, not so much. As we find latakia in everything we can gloss over it I just hope Syria has enough cedar and tobacco to start supplying us with its superior leaf again soon but unless its compressed dust(new "bengal slices" had nothing but dust) most latakia are a similar damp campfire.... Perique, I like the whole perique mystique. Flavorful and pungent it has a lot to offer but I find it playing the role of pepper in a lot of blends. I am tempted to try a semois/perique homebrew. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum so who can tell? Anyhoo, as I have learned to only shop un-topped tobaccos I am left to few options yet there are some amazing blends that give flavor without assistance and those are the ones i favor. So with my main tobaccos in place I have ventured a bit into more topped blends. Rum topped blends are quite good to me right now. Whatever is in GLP gaslight is okay as well. Still not doing more than one each a day but nice to have fun flavor with minor sugar burn. Dreams of kadath is actually not bad, once the berry topping has blown off it has a rich flavor and smokes well. So the moral of the story is that everything can be good, everything can be bad but there is no substitution for quality! No matter what your favorite blend may be it will always be best if the blend started with better supplies. I heard prince albert? sprays on a "burley" flavorant. 4th generation 1931 blend sprays on something to mimick aged rum soaked tobacco.(best i can tell.) But both are pretty low on my list making me wait rather than buy any....ever. While those blends I have smoked with real honest ingredients and maturation seem to stand alone in flavor "quality". Like comparing vaping to your favorite pipe blend, we all know which tastes better.. Anyhoo, try everything!!! Thanks for reading

Right there with you on being fairly sensitive the the wretched bite. I've also had good luck with Sea Dog, and most recently with Balkan Sasieni. I love Gaslight and Plum Pudding also, but as you mentioned, in moderation. Dan Tobacco Old Ironsides is pretty latakia heavy, but far less bitey than most, you many enjoy that one as well.

Missippi river, hood canal, plum pudding are all great SPC blends. C&D has a number of the pure virginias and some delightful orientals byzantine is great. GLPease has temple bar which is divine..(pun intended..lol) Chocolate, nut, citrus, breads, all pop out several of those..(and more) I have several tins waiting to try but first in first out, with several in longer holdings so this time i went c&d redburn as my "tester". I had good luck with blockade runner so redburn seemed a natural choice to continue the navy theme. Almost a perfect match with dreams of kadath berry but lacking the richness after mid bowl. Gave it a fair hearing but meh..(mehville at sea series?..lol) I have others but waste not want not!. Blended it with semois (tabak manil, I have a bit of the dry bale) and it was a bit better for a while. Thankfully I have had several great rum blends so redburn wont put me off of them. This is one of those sippers for a casual smoker that will be fun. Anyhoo, i will be trying to give some impressions of those unopened testers as we go. Have a great day!

Montford point marine. I do not fully understand how this blend works but it is a fun blend. Plenty of power, it has a evolution of flavors as it burns. Old aftershave, musty footlookers, leather, even a cigar flavor briefly appears. Kentucky, perique, virginas somehow come together at the end of a bowl to make a light oriental finish out of a "dark" flavor. After a number of bowls, the blend stays true to the profile which I find interesting as many blends change to my taste both for good and bad over the course of a tin. I hope to read other posts on this blend to see how the blend performs for them.
