Hello fellow forum friends... I have 5-10 lb. "Gift" package that I need to ship to the UK, but the UPS/USPS/DHL price quotes are in the hundreds of dollars - it is insane!!! Can anyone advise on how to get this package to my overseas pal for a reasonable cost? Thanks!!!

Well, I found that USPS Priority International is about $83 for 10lb. package and that's probably the cheapest, although I didn't check with DHL. You might want to check with them but, unlike USPS they don't have a calculator and will email you a quote. Also, If you're not aware of it already, anything valued over $19 will cost the recipient in a duty tax. Oh, and if it's tobacco products they may get seized if you give that as a description to the contents.

The quote I got during my visit to the UPS/USPS Postal drop was $137.28 - $158.95 for a 10 lb. package measuring 15 x 15 x 15. UPS wanted $314. - $389. I will cross my fingers that it was the shop owner's mistake or incompetence, and try again at another location for a 2nd set of quotes. The contents, fortunately, are NOT tobacco products. Thanks again!

This is what I found, your dimensions don't seem to equal over there restrictions so they were probably quoting you the highest and try'en to make a buck on top of it. If you have a printer and a GOOD scale you can print a label up yourself and not have to trust some guy look'en to make a buck off ya.
Priority Mail International® Max. length 60", max. length plus girth combined 108" 6 - 10 business days to many major markets $82.25

You'll have to fill out a form online stating weight of the item itself, NOT including the box and packaging and then the total weight. It was a bit confusing the 1st time I did it but, ya get the hang of it after a few times. And they'll also ask if it's a GIFT and you'll also choose that it's not valued over a certain amount, forgot just exactly what the amount was but, it's under $20. If ya have any problems just call me and I'll try and walk ya through it, you have my number.

One of the best investments I have made is my digital scale from Amazon, dead nuts accurate, and using paypal for shipping, you get a 10%? Discount on domestic shipping, and tracking is free using USPS. Instead of standing in line at the post offfice it is a drop off point.... with a simple click of the mouse I can notify the postal worker to pick it up at my door. I feel your pain about shipments overseas.... I get hosed pretty badly on shipments from Mr. Snuff in the U.K., I would like to send packages to my cousin that runs an orphanage in Uganda, but That is crazy expensive. www.google.com/amp/s/oaxacaborn.com/2012/10/01/paypal-shipping-tutorial/amp/
